    A man's been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a crash in Evesham on Monday night.

    A woman in her 20s was taken to hospital with what West Mercia Police say are thought to be life-changing injuries, after the car she was in hit a lamp post and a tree on Broadway Road.

    The man, who is also in his 20s, was treated for minor injuries.

  2. Investigation into Islamic charity launchedpublished at 12:15 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2019

    The Charity Commission has launched an investigation, external into an organisation which promotes Islam in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

    It says the Jalalabad Association failed to file the proper financial information for five consecutive years and then submitted the accounts for 2013 almost five years late.

    The records for 2012 and 2014 to 2017 are still outstanding and the Charity Commission said it would now produce a report on the way the charity is being managed.

    The BBC has attempted to contact the charity for a comment.

  3. Business park extension plan to create 1,700 jobspublished at 12:02 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2019

    An extension of the i54 business park near Wolverhampton is expected to be approved next week.

    Plans have been drawn up to expand the site to the west, creating £300m of private investment and 1,700 jobs.

    The partnership which runs the site and is comprised of Staffordshire and Wolverhampton councils, says £3m will also be raised in business rates, with half being spent on public services in the area.

    Staffordshire County Council cabinet members will discuss the plans next Wednesday.

  4. 'Misinformation' over shooting 'really dangerous'published at 11:45 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2019

    A director of a police watchdog has described the "misinformation" shared about the recent police shooting of a man in Coventry as "really, really dangerous".

    Derrick Campbell, regional director of the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), said inaccurate reports on social media that 31-year-old Sean Fitzgerald died after he was shot in the back by officers were "very worrying".

    "Misinformation is really, really dangerous and we were very nervous about a repetition of what happened a few years back in London following the shooting of Mark Duggan," Mr Campbell said.

    Mark Duggan was shot dead by police in August 2011. His death sparked riots in Tottenham, which led to disorder across the country.

    Yesterday, the IOPC said its investigation found Mr Fitzgerald died from a single wound to the chest having been shot as he emerged from the rear of a property on in Burnaby Road, Coventry, on Friday while police were entering through the front. The investigation is continuing.

    An inquest into Mr Fitzgerald's death will be opened in Leamington Spa tomorrow.

    A rail operator has been criticised by commuters who say they have been unable to get on trains to work due to overcrowding.

    West Midlands Railway, which runs trains across the region as well as from London Euston to Crewe, and Liverpool to Birmingham, pledged £1bn investment when it took over the franchise previously run by London Midland at the end of 2017.

    Commuter Kim Richards, who was travelling from Selly Oak to Birmingham New Street earlier, said: "It is absolutely ridiculous.

    "Fares have gone up yet I cannot get physically on three of the trains that have arrived. Yes trains are every 10 mins but you cannot get on.

    "As you can tell me, along with a lot of other people, are so angry about this. Nobody minds an increase in the fare if the service is better, it's not, it's much worse!"

    A spokesman for West Midlands Railway said: "There have been some changes to the formation of some of the cross-city lines as we have been working to install new fully-accessible toilets. This may be why commuters are finding trains perhaps busier than usual."

  6. Motorcyclist dies in collision with carpublished at 10:54 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2019

    A motorcyclist has died after a collision with a car, the ambulance service has said.

    Paramedics were called to the A423 Banbury Road in Wormleighton, Warwickshire, shortly before 17:15 GMT on Tuesday.

    A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said the car had left the road and was in a ditch when medics arrived.

    The motorcyclist, a man, was given CPR by a nurse who was passing the scene and stopped to help until ambulance crews took over. He was confirmed dead at the scene.

    The car driver, a woman, was out of the vehicle and was given treatment at the scene for minor injuries.

    Burton Albion are going into tonight's League Cup semi final against Manchester City off the back of a confidence-boosting 4-0 league win over Rochdale and they're unbeaten in their last four games.

    A man who was killed in a crash involving a car and a lorry on the M6 near Kendal has been identified.

    Cumbria police say Ben Oakley, 34, from Shropshire, had been driving a Renault Megane.

    The crash, near Junction 37, closed a stretch of the motorway for several hours on Monday.

    Officers say the driver of an articulated lorry that was also involved in the crash, a man in his 40s from outside Cumbria, wasn't injured.

    Tammy Abraham's immediate future remains the subject of speculation this morning - despite reports yesterday he'd turned down a move to Wolves to remain on loan at Villa.

    The Chelsea striker is reportedly happy to stay at Villa Park as confusion reigns over a FIFA ruling that says a player can't play for more than two sides in a season.

    Before scoring 16 goals for Villa this season, he also featured for Chelsea Under 23's and played in the Community Shield at Wembley for his parent side.

    It's thought Wolves haven't given up hope yet, while Crystal Palace are also rumoured to be interested.

    Hope House children's hospice says it relies too much on a small number of people for its funding and it needs more to get involved in fundraising this year.

    The charity runs hospices in Oswestry and Conwy and end-of-life care at people's homes in Shropshire, Cheshire and parts of Wales, and says it needs £3.3m a year to keep running as it is.

    A Wolverhampton MP is calling for better regulation of bailiffs, after claims one company forced their way into the home of a disabled woman and took money from her purse.

    Labour's Emma Reynolds, who represents Wolverhampton North East, will lead a debate in Parliament later, calling for better protection for people who experience bailiffs.

    The MP said: "I was shocked actually by the way that they were treated.

    "In a civilised society we need to treat everyone with respect.

    "I will be asking for an independent regulator, a kind of watchdog, but also that we consider making it compulsory for bailiffs to wear a body cam so that if there is a dispute of this kind that there is some form of evidence of what actually happened."

    The former Stoke City player Liam Lawrence says the talk around the industry is that Luton Town's Nathan Jones will be the next Stoke manager.

    Yesterday Stoke sacked Gary Rowett after a disappointing eight months at the club and Lawrence said his contacts had told him a deal for the Luton manager was "more or less done".

    Lawrence said Stoke just need to "sort it out with Luton".

    Birmingham City Council spent more than £900,000 on so-called paupers' funerals last year.

    A Freedom of Information request, by insurance company Royal London, found 275 local authorities spent nearly £5.4m on public health funerals in the 12 months up to April 2018.

    More than 3,800 of the funerals, for people who have died alone, in poverty or without relatives, were held.

  14. Triple child murders: Mother 'waiting for answers' over killer releasepublished at 08:44 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2019

    The mother of three children murdered in Worcester nearly 46 years ago says she's still waiting for answers - five weeks after finding out their killer's been cleared for release.

    Elsie Urry's children, aged between nine months and four years old, were killed by David McGreavy at their home in Gillam Street in 1973.

    Ms Urry says she can't get any new information from the Parole Board. "I just feel so annoyed and so mad about it all really," she said.

    "They've got no answers for me at the moment, that's all I keep getting.

    "It makes me wonder now whether he's already out of prison," Ms Urry added.

    A pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle on the M42 in Warwickshire, police said.

    The northbound carriageway between junction 10 and 11, at Tamworth, is currently closed and one lane is closed southbound.
