    The former Wolves midfielder and Welsh international signed for his home town club this week and many fans are eager to see him in the team against Charlton tomorrow.

    The RSPCA said it was "heartbroken" that money donated to help animals had been taken by the former chairman of its Shropshire branch, Peter Ralphs.

    The 69-year-old from Shrewsbury was jailed today for defrauding the charity of £184,000, after admitting his guilt in November.

    The charity said the money was taken between November 2014 and January 2017.

    A spokesperson added: "RSPCA branches are run as separate charities and rely on the hard work and dedication of volunteers supported by generous animal lovers in the community. We would like to reassure supporters that the branch continues its vital work helping animals."

    Plans to use new powers to tackle anti-social behaviour, external on buses in the region will be considered today by the West Midlands Combined Authority.

    The plans would give enforcement officers more powers to deal with things such as threatening or offensive behaviour, vandalism and playing loud music.

    If approved, the measures would apply to not only buses but bus shelters and stations across the region.

    Tories are calling on Birmingham's Labour-run council to publicise information connected to another twist in the city's long-running bin collection saga.

    The union Unite claims its members who went on strike in 2017 did not receive a payment made to GMB members who did not take part in the industrial action over a restructuring of the service.

    Before Christmas, Unite members were balloted over the payment issue and while they stopped short of voting to strike again, they are working to rule.

    There's been missed collections as a result.

    With the latest dispute still ongoing, the Conservative group will put forward a motion at next Tuesday’s full council meeting to make public all of the details around the matter.

    A former chairman of the Shropshire branch of the RSPCA has been jailed for three years for defrauding the charity of £184,000.

    Peter James Ralphs, who is 69 and from Sutton Road in Shrewsbury, had previously pleaded guilty, with the money used to buy expensive clothes.

    He's set to spend half the sentence out on licence.

    Mrs Sabin was LTA president for Murray's second Wimbledon victory and saw him rise to number one in the world, while helping Great Britain win the Davis Cup.

    A former police chief inspector says he's offered to work with Coventry City Council over its plans to ban drones in parks and open spaces.

    The authority has deferred a decision following complaints from enthusiasts, and Kerry Blakeman - licensed commercial drone operator and once head of policing in the city - was among those calling for a rethink, in addition to public consultation and new government legislation.

    Mr Blakeman, formerly of the West Midlands force, has proposed the council introduces designated areas for drones as a compromise, saying it presents “a real opportunity” to embrace new technologies.

    He said: “I’m delighted the two contentious measures – the one regarding introducing an outline ban on drones – have been deferred, along with the potential to charge for commercial operations.”

    Coventry Blaze forward Ben Lake has won his first call-up to the Great Britain ice hockey team for its World Championship warm-up match against Latvian side Dinamo Riga.

    The 28-year-old joins another Coventry player, Luke Ferrara, who was part of the GB team that won promotion to the top division of the championships, with victory in Hungary last year.

    A number of Telford Tigers players have also won Great Britain call-ups.

    Joe Hazeldine is with the under-20s squad in Estonia for its World Championships, along with former Telford player Deakan Fielder.

    Hazeldine was also named in the under-18s squad for its tournament in April, with Henry Adams, Dan Mitchell and Finlay Howells waiting for a chance on the reserves list.
