    Reports of a drone being flown near Birmingham Airport led police to make an arrest not over the airborne device but a gunpoint robbery.

    Police were called to reports of a drone being flown on Sheldon Heath Road, close to the airport, on Wednesday afternoon.

    A car found in the area linked a suspect to the armed robbery, said West Midlands Police, external.

    A 19-year-old man was arrested in connection with a violent burglary in which a woman was dragged out of her bed at gunpoint by an intruder who broke into her Birmingham home.

    He remains in police custody.

    A man has been arrested after breaking into a house in Wolverhampton with a gun and locking himself in a bedroom.

    It happened on Parkfield Road in Ettingshall this morning but the 24-year-old eventually left the address.

    He was later arrested on nearby Vale Street - along with a 19-year-old woman - on suspicion of possessing a firearm.

    A Coventry school for girls has been placed in the top 10 schools nationally in the Key Stage 4 performance tables.

    The league tables look at the performance of schools as measured through a detailed, statistical look at pupils' progress, called Progress 8.

    Eden Girls School ranked 7th in the table, with 67% of pupils reaching a grade five or above in English and Maths.

    Planners have given the go-ahead for a controversial scheme to cover 91 acres with polytunnels.

    Herefordshire Council’s planning committee chairman used his casting vote to break the deadlock and approve the applicant's plans to install 11 blocks of polytunnels for strawberry tabletop production at his farm in Ocle Pychard.

    The plans for land at Lodge Farm and Highway Farm, off Monkton Farm Lane, also include siting of 72 caravan pitches for seasonal workers with a mini sewage treatment plant and worker facilities within existing farm buildings at the farm, which was purchased from Herefordshire Council.

    Residents sent in more than 250 letters against the plans and Ocle Pychard parish council has also objected to the scheme, along with the neighbouring councils of Much Cowarne and Withington.

    Two people have been arrested after a police car chase through Leamington Spa.

    The pair were detained in a "county lines" operation, aimed at cutting the supply of drugs from Birmingham to rural Warwickshire, police said.

    Officers found drugs, mobile phones and a knife in the vehicle.

    Council tax in Worcestershire looks set to be raised by 3.99% under plans to plug a financial gap by the council.

    The proposed budget, outlined today, will see an extra £23m spent on social care, "as demand for these services grow", it said.

    It said cuts to library services over the next two years have been reduced by £200,000, while cuts to the county’s archives service have also been reduced by £155,000.

    Plans to introduce parking charges at Worcester Woods Countryside centre could also now be scrapped.

    Proposed capital investments include plans to build a new footbridge across the River Severn in north Worcester, while an additional £5m is to be invested into the upgrading of railway stations.

    A man has been found guilty of the murder of 27-year-old Daniel Kennell who was found stabbed and later died in hospital.

    Ryan Preston, 27, of Hermitage Road, Coventry, was found guilty by a majority of 11-1 at Warwick Crown Court earlier.

    Mr Kennell was found stabbed on St Austell Road in Walsgrave, Coventry, in July last year.

    Preston will be sentenced tomorrow.
