    The body of a man has been found in a supermarket car park in Shirley, Birmingham.

    Paramedics were called to the rear of Aldi on Stratford Road at about 15:15 on Monday to reports of a cardiac arrest, the ambulance service said.

    Police say the death of the 47-year-old is not being treated as suspicious.

    A woman has appeared in court charged with murdering her two children.

    Louise Porton, 22, is accused of killing three-year-old Lexi Draper and 16-month-old Scarlett Vaughan in January and February 2018.

    Ms Porton, of Skiddaw, Rugby, was remanded in custody at the Warwick Crown Court hearing earlier. No plea was entered and a provisional trial date was set for July.

    The children died in hospital after paramedics were called to reports they'd been found ill at their Rugby home.

    A decision on the future of hospital services in Shropshire is due to be made later today, after five years of discussion and reviews costing millions of pounds.

    The recommendation going before the 15-person panel of the NHS Future Fit review body is that Shrewsbury should have the county's only centre of emergency care, with the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford becoming a centre for planned treatment.

    Telford would also lose its specialist women and children's services under the plans, which have been opposed by politicians and campaigners in the town.

    The meeting takes place at Harper Adams University near Newport at 18:30, with space for 300 people, although the public won't be able to ask questions.

    A gang of carjackers knocked over and seriously injured the owner of a sports car during a robbery in Birmingham this morning.

    Three offenders stole the white Audi A3 during the attack on Baldwins Lane, Hall Green, shortly before 07:00, police said.

    The hurt man was airlifted to hospital.

    Scribers Lane remains closed in both directions at the junction of Baldwins Lane.

    England number eight Nathan Hughes says he has "learned his lesson" after a rogue tweet cost him two caps.

    Hughes had a four-week suspension extended to six weeks in October after tweeting "what a joke" following his initial hearing for punching.

    The Wasps forward, 27, has now quit social media and says he is hungrier than ever to represent his country.

    "That was a very dark moment for me and to leave it was the best decision," Hughes told BBC Sport.

    Some staff at City of Wolverhampton College are starting two days of industrial action in an ongoing dispute over pay.

    Members of the University and College Union (UCU) claim their pay has effectively fallen by 25% over the last ten years, with the gap between college teachers' pay and that of school teachers standing at £7,000.

    UCU members at Coventry College were also due to be out on 29 and 30 January, but the strikes have been suspended to allow further talks aimed at resolving the dispute, the union said.

    A City of Wolverhampton College spokesperson says there's little money in further education to fund pay increases, unlike schools where the government has funded recent pay rises.

    A cyclist has been seriously injured after his bike crashed with a car in Sandwell earlier.

    Paramedics were called to Queslett Road, Great Barr, at about 07:40.

    The hurt man received trauma care at the scene before being taken to hospital, the ambulance service said.

    A section of Queslett Road is expected to remain closed throughout the morning.

  14. School closed after body foundpublished at 09:59 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

    A school in Warwickshire has been closed following the death of a member of staff whose body was found on site.

    Avon Valley School and Performing Arts College in Rugby said the colleague was a member of the school's "site team" and was discovered as the school was being unlocked this morning.

    Warwickshire Police said it was called to the site at about 05:40 where the body of a man in his 50s was found.

    His death is not currently being treated as suspicious and the next of kin has been informed, the force says.

    The school, which says it closed on the advice of police, is expected to reopen tomorrow.

  15. 2021 Rugby League World Cup: Ricoh confirmed among host venuespublished at 09:51 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

    Coventry's Ricoh Arena will be one of 21 host venues for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup in England.

    As well as the men's World Cup, the women's and wheelchair events will run alongside it.

    Newcastle's St James' Park will host the opening ceremony on 23 October, with the men's and women's finals both at Old Trafford on 27 November 2021.

    All the venues with traditional rugby league strongholds such as Leeds, Greater Manchester, Liverpool and Hull have been chosen.

    However, Coventry, Doncaster and York have also been included in the list.

    Australia are the defending men's champions, having beaten England 6-0 on home soil in the 2017 final.
