    Two potential sites for a new cemetery have been identified by a county running out of burial space.

    A report going before a Shropshire Council committee next week , externalsays plots are running low in Shrewsbury and Minsterley.

    It says the plan in Minsterley is to develop on council-owned land next to Church Pulverbatch cemetery.

    For Shrewsbury, the authority's report says two possible sites have been identified, although their locations haven't been revealed.

  3. Man seriously injured trying to stop thieves' vanpublished at 08:19 Greenwich Mean Time 29 January 2019

    A man was seriously injured trying to stop a van driven by thieves who stole a moped from his house.

    The victim, in his 60s, acted when he saw men removing the property from his Cornmeadow Lane home in Worcester on Sunday.

    He fell when attempting to stop the thieves' van, leaving him with serious injuries to his head and chest. They are not believed to be life-threatening.

    West Mercia Police, external said it would increased patrols in the area after the "particularly nasty incident".

    The A449 remains closed in both directions in Ombersley, Worcestershire, after a crash.

    Police are diverting traffic away from the scene, close to Lionel Way in the Hawford area.

    Coventry will find out this morning whether it's to stage matches for the Rugby League World Cup in 2021.

    The Ricoh Arena has been shortlisted as a venue for the tournament which will include men's, women's and wheelchair matches.

    The announcement is due at 09:00.

    A yellow weather warning comes into force from midday and lasts until 11:00 on Wednesday.

    In addition to road, rail and air travel problems, the Met Office said there was a possibility of power cuts and mobile phone coverage disruption, along with a "slight chance" of some rural communities being cut off.

    The Environment Agency wants to put up the permanent panels in place of current, removable defences on the footpath on the southern side of the River Wye, near the Old Bridge in Hereford.

    Wolverhampton Wanderers' home ground Molineux has become the first Premier League stadium to introduce safe-standing areas.

    Standing in English football's top two divisions was outlawed by the Football Spectators' Act in 1989, but Wolves has created the sections "should government legislation on all-seater stadiums change" following recent support from the Football Association.

    The provision is in a currently unused block and the club is set to install two more alternatives to traditional seating later this week.

    “Whilst the seats themselves will not be operational or used at matches, we are now able to give our Fan’s Parliament group and local authority the opportunity to view all the options before some of these solutions become commonplace in UK stadiums," managing director Laurie Dalrymple said.
