    A row's broken out over which town Shropshire Council will put forward to be considered for a government-funded high street revamp.

    The government announced last year £675m would be spent on improving high streets and invited local authorities to bid for some of the cash.

    Conservative-run Shropshire Council said it'd put Shewsbury forward, but after complaints from councillors in other areas of the county, the authority said it would reconsider.

    It has until 22 March to make a decision.

    People who feed seagulls in Worcester could be hit with a £70 fine.

    The proposal is designed to address problems caused by the city's growing gull population, although it falls under steps to tackle antisocial behaviour of the human kind - including aggressive begging and public urination.

    Worcester City Council says it spends £15,000 each year tackling "aggressive" and "nuisance" seagulls.

    Comedian and children's author David Walliams has announced the dramatisation of his book 'The Boy in the Dress' by the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC).

    Mr Walliams said he was "thrilled" by the adaption of his first book which follows 12-year-old Dennis as he realises that as well as football, he also loves yellow dresses.

    The play will run at the Stratford-upon-Avon theatre from November 2019 until March 2020, featuring original songs by Robbie Williams.

    A mother and daughter who were facing deportation after living in the UK for 15 years have been told by the Home Office they can stay for 30 months.

    Opelo Kgari left Botswana to follow her mother Florence, who, the women said, fled a violent relationship.

    The pair, who live in Staffordshire, spent five months of 2018 in an immigration removal centre and fought the threat of deportation on two fronts.

    Today, Ms Kgari told the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire programme that the 30 months gave them both breathing space before they had to apply to extend their stay and look at gaining British citizenship in the future.

    Fallen trees on the tracks between Walsall and Rugeley this morning have caused delays to services - and also this damage to a driver's cab:

    Overhead lines were also damaged by the debris, which has now been cleared, according to Network Rail.

    West Midlands Railway says services are no longer disrupted.

    The Met Office has put out a yellow alert for rain which could turn to snow and ice from midday Tuesday and into Wednesday.

    It has also issued a yellow warning for heavy snow from 21:00 on Tuesday and into Wednesday.

    A woman has appeared in court charged with murdering her two young daughters.

    Louise Porton, 22, appeared before magistrates in Leamington Spa on Saturday accused of murdering 16-month-old Scarlett Vaughan and three-year-old Lexi Draper.

    Ms Porton, of Skiddaw, Rugby, was remanded in custody to appear at Warwick Crown Court, sitting at Leamington, on Tuesday.

    Warwickshire Police said Lexi died in hospital after paramedics were called to reports she had been found unconscious in her home in the early hours of 15 January 2018.

    Scarlett died on 1 February after paramedics were called to a report she had fallen ill, the force added.

    West Midlands Metropolitan Mayor Andy Street says it is "absolutely right" that Sikhs be acknowledged as an ethnic group.

    About a third of Britain’s Sikhs live in the West Midlands - about 134,000 people - and campaigners say the community wants to be properly represented as an ethnic group on the census.

    Sikhism is a faith, but Jatinder Singh, president of the Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Smethwick, says he sees Sikhs as a "separate race".

    He said: "We look different, the culture is different, the language is different, the way of life is different."

    Mr Street said he hoped the government would support the campaign, saying it was a "piece of simple logic" that Sikhs should be able to identify as an ethnic group.

    Millions of pounds are set to be spent improving two bottlenecks in Worcestershire.

    Highways England has announced £2.68m for work on the A38 at two motorway junctions near Bromsgrove.

    The scheme will see the route widened at J1 of the M42 and at J4 of the M5 to Lydiate Ash Road.

    Highways England hasn't said when the work will begin but adds the county council will reveal more details in the next few months.

    A 22-year-old man has been stabbed outside a McDonald's in Birmingham.

    He was attacked outside the restaurant on School Road in Yardley Wood, external at about 15:20 GMT on Sunday.

    He was stabbed once in the arm and taken to hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

    No arrests have been made but the West Midlands force says it is "confident those in the local community know who is responsible" and asks witnesses to come forward.

    Staffordshire Police is to close six police stations which are "no longer needed".

    Matthew Ellis, police and crime commissioner for the force, told BBC Radio Stoke funds saved by the closures would go back into policing, adding his focus was "getting boots on the ground".

    He said: "We really have got to get more visible policing back on to the street.

    "We can't have everything, money is tight."
