A Birmingham councillor has moved to try and reassure people living in Erdington this afternoon by saying fatal shootings in the area are "rare".
It comes after West Midlands Police confirmed it had launched a murder investigation , externalafter a 28-year-old man was shot dead on Church Road.
Local Erdington councillor Robert Alden said: "We are a wonderful community here locally, this kind of event is rare."

West Midlands Police said a 28-year-old man was shot on Church Road, Erdington.
Officers say his family have been informed and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Liquidators at PwC say they will distribute a further £5.2m to unsecured creditors, including 1,200 former employees, of Powertrain, part of the MG Rover Group which manufactured engines and gearboxes.
About 6,000 workers lost their jobs when the Longbridge-based firm entered administration in 2005.
PwC said the 4.74p in the pound payout to a total of 1,700 unsecured creditors brings the total return to date to Powertrain’s unsecured creditors to 39.74p - a total of £43.7m.
Matthew Hammond, PwC Midlands region chairman, said: "The collapse of the MG Rover Group impacted many families and communities.
"Our teams working on this case have brought to life one of our key purposes of solving important problems - in this case the size and complexity of the MG Rover Group and enabling a significant return to creditors.”

Emergency services have been called to a road in Birmingham this afternoon.
The ambulance service says the incident happened at around midday on Church Road, Erdington.
A photograph taken by Twitter user @alexhaines123, external which he says is of the scene shows several police cars and an ambulance on the street, which has been sealed off.
Two local councillors have told the BBC they will be working with the police to find out what's happened.

Staffordshire Police said she had got out of the Ford Fiesta to post a letter at the Spar on Wardles Lane, Great Wyrley, near Cannock, last night.
She suffered minor injuries and the vehicle was later found in Creswell Crescent, Walsall.
Officers say the teenager was arrested on suspicion of robbery and is still in custody.

Voting has been postponed in the Ross North ward of Herefordshire Council, because of the death of one of the candidates.
It was due to take place on 2 May, along with other local authority elections, but was put on hold when the death of UKIP's Gareth Williams was announced.
The other candidates will be eligible to stand in the rearranged election, along with anyone else who wants to register, but a date hasn't been set yet.
A primary school in Coventry has been hit by a suspected gas explosion.
The alarm was raised at the John Gulson primary school in Foleshill just before 11:00 and the firefighters in breathing apparatus have been trying to isolate the gas and electricity supplies.
A man was treated for burns at the scene and he's been taken to hospital for assessment.
The pupils are currently on Easter holidays.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of Leneto Kellengbeck in Solihull.
Mr Kellengbeck, who was known as Lenny, died from multiple stab wounds in the Smith's Wood area on 29 March.
Officers arrested a 24-year-old man last night and are due to question him later today.
Det Insp Jim Colclough, from West Midlands Police's homicide team, said offices were "determined" to bring Mr Kellengbeck's "killer or killers to justice".
