    Black cab drivers are to stage their latest protest against proposed clean air zone charges in Birmingham.

    Motorists with high-polluting cars will have to pay £8 to enter the city centre after the government approved the city's clean air zone (CAZ) plan.

    But taxi drivers are upset at a £5,000 offer from the council to upgrade their cabs and want further talks.

    The council has pledged £15m to help them.

    Performances of a children's play have been cancelled after a tour van containing staging, props and costumes was stolen.

    Dear Zoo, based on the books by Rod Campbell, had been touring theatres all over the UK and was due in Worcestershire on Sunday.

    Producer Chris Davis said the Mercedes truck containing £50,000 worth of goods was stolen in Peterborough on Saturday morning.

    Performances of the play at the Atrix Arts Centre, Bromsgrove on 28 and 29 April have been cancelled, the venue said.

    Part of a Birmingham hotel had to be evacuated on Sunday after a incident involving swimming pool chemicals.

    Guests staying on the ground floor at the Marriott Hotel in the city were asked to leave the building whilst fire crews dealt with a "small amount of gas".

    Crews were called to the scene shortly before 16:00 and visitors were allowed back into the Hagley Road premises at about 18:50.

    Thousands of people spent Sunday at the Vaisakhi celebrations in Birmingham.

    Processions made their way from Smethwick and Hockley to Handsworth Park where a free community event was held.

    The gathering included Sikh cultural activities, a children's play area and arts and crafts exhibitions.

    The event celebrating the birth of Sikh Khalsa had an area for worship, Darbar, that was open to all communities to visit and understand the Sikh faith.

    Food was prepared by various Gurdwaras from across Birmingham and the Black Country.
