    An Islamic centre in Staffordshire, used by 200 children, has been attacked by vandals twice in a week.

    Owners of the Al Noor Education Centre, Tunstall, said considerable damage was caused, leaving them devastated.

    They'd recently raised thousands of pounds to refurbish the building and were looking to make it available for the whole community.

    Staffordshire Police is investigating.

  4. Neighbour 'uneasy' over Lamplugh searchpublished at 14:07 British Summer Time 4 July 2019

    A woman who lives near land in Pershore where police are searching for the missing estate agent Suzy Lamplugh says it's given her a "nasty, uneasy feeling".

    Ms Lamplugh disappeared from London in 1986. She is believed dead, with a convicted killer from Sutton Coldfield suspected of her abduction and murder.

    A garden there was dug up last year, but no remains were found. Now the search has switched to Worcestershire.

    Joan Parsons, a neighbour of the field in Pershore, says "it just makes me wonder what we’re walking on quite honestly - it’s not a happy thought is it"?

    Ms Parsons said there was a "lot of fuss" when police first arrived at Drakes Broughton and added: "I would think [Ms Lamplugh's family] would hope it’s successful, it would be nice to have an end to it. I just hope she’s not around here, that’s all."

    The search of the area - where digging vehicles have been seen - is expected to last for two weeks.

    A student paramedic who died after an ambulance crashed with a car was from Staffordshire University, it's been confirmed.

    The crash happened in Needwood, near Burton-upon-Trent, on Wednesday evening.

    Dr Ann Ewens, the university's Dean of the School of Health and Social Care, said the 31-year-old woman's death was "a huge blow", adding staff and students were being offered support.

    The National Trust is seeking the return of medals which once belonged to composer Sir Edward Elgar; items described since their theft as "nationally significant" and "irreplaceable".

    They were stolen from the Edward Elgar Birthplace Museum at Lower Broadheath in Worcestershire a week ago.

    The items include the Grand Cross of The Royal Victorian Order, which Elgar was given when he received his knighthood.

    Smoking will be banned from Friday throughout hospital sites belonging to an NHS trust in the West Midlands., external

    Hospital buildings run by Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust are already smoke-free, but as of tomorrow it will also be outlawing on-site smoking outdoors.

    Anyone who ignores the measure, including people smoking in cars at the site, could face a maximum £50 fine, with staff facing disciplinary action if caught.

    Vaping will be allowed outside, with some shelters kept for that purpose, but the trust says they'll be checked on CCTV to make sure they're not used for cigarettes.

    A man has died after the car in which he was travelling went down an embankment and crashed into a tree near Coventry this morning.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called to Oxford Road in Ryton-on-Dunsmore at 05:49 and found him with "multiple serious injuries".

    He died at the scene.

    The Walking Dead comic series, illustrated by Shrewsbury artist Charlie Adlard, has come to a surprise end.

    Fans have been snapping up copies after it went on sale yesterday, but weren't told in advance it was going to be the final issue.

    The series has been running since 2003 and is the inspiration for the popular TV show of the same name. There is an exhibition of Mr Adlard's work on display at the Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery.

    The Walking Dead's final edition is already being resold for more than five times its original value.

    Officers say their injuries aren't thought to be life-threatening and two men, aged 26 and 39, have been arrested on suspicion of wounding and are still in custody.
