    While most of us are grabbing a sandwich on our lunch breaks, Tim Vivian checks on his 150,000 bees on the roof of the city centre building where he works.

    The 55-year-old computer programmer installed three hives on the roof of The Custard Factory in Digbeth, Birmingham, after getting the go-ahead from his employer.

  2. Aston Martin receives £68m stake offerpublished at 11:02 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

    Shares in luxury carmaker Aston Martin are up 2.3% after the firm's biggest investor Strategic European Investment Group (SEIG) said it was considering the possibility of making a cash offer for another 3% stake.

    SEIG currently owns 31% of the company.

    The investment group is looking to snap up 6.8 million shares in the Warwickshire-based company at £10 each.

    SEIG added: "This announcement does not amount to an announcement of a firm intention to make an offer and there can be no certainty that an offer will be made."

    Rescue workers wearing diving gear were called upon to search a van in the Coventry Canal after concerns there maybe someone trapped inside.

    A boat crew joined firefighters after the vehicle was discovered near Spon Lane, Grendon in Warwickshire.

    "Luckily" the vehicle was empty, said the fire service, but "not a great place to park".

    The high-speed rail project HS2 would be scrapped if the Brexit Party were to get into power, a rally in Birmingham heard last night.

    Construction of the first phase of the £56bn rail network project between London and Birmingham is currently under way.

    Thousands turned out to the event at the NEC which featured glow sticks and pyrotechnics.

    Party leader Nigel Farage revealed his Brexit Booster Plan which also included refusing to pay the European Union's £39m divorce bill.

    Searches of the river Severn in Worcester are continuing after a man was seen falling from Sabrina Bridge in the early hours of Saturday morning.

    An 18-year-old reported missing from Worcester has been identified from CCTV footage taken at the time, police say.

    The incident is not being treated as suspicious, it added.

    A nurse who's attempting to swim the length of the River Severn hopes to finish her challenge today.

    Melissa Compton started the 220-mile charity challenge last month but has been hampered by floods and illness.

    Low tides prevented her from completing the swim over the weekend.

    A teenage girl who's been missing from West Yorkshire since Thursday has links to the West Midlands.

    Alina Qureshi, 15, was last seen on Thursday night in Halifax at about 22:30.

    Police say the teenager has links to the West Midlands, including Birmingham and Walsall.

    Alina is described as being 5ft, of slim or medium build, with long straight black hair and brown eyes.

    Five teenage boys have been taken to hospital after it was suspected they may have taken a bad batch of drugs.

    The boys were taken ill at a property in Wetherby Way, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire during the early hours of Sunday.

    Police believe they had taken a type of the drug known as "Mandy", and were keeping an open mind as to whether it was a bad batch of drugs or an overdose.

    "We are contacting Public Health for further advice. In the meantime we would urge drug users to be cautious and if you have taken this drug in the last few days consider seeking medical advice," said Warwickshire Police.

  12. Biker dies after collision with people carrierpublished at 08:09 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

    A 39-year-old motorcyclist has died in a crash involving a people carrier on a road in Oxfordshire.

    The man, from Telford, was riding his Honda CBR series bike on the A361 near Chipping Norton on Saturday when it collided with a black Chrysler Voyager shortly before midday.

    He died of his injuries at the scene. No arrests have been made and police are appealing for witnesses.

    An investigation is continuing after five people were seriously injured in a crash in Coventry.

    Four people from a Volkswagen Polo car and a taxi driver, who is believed to have been the sole occupant of his vehicle, were taken to hospital after the crash just before 06:00 on Sunday.

    A section road close to the Railway pub in Spon End remained cordoned off for a time yesterday.

  14. Video: Man photographs cooling towers for 50 yearspublished at 07:52 British Summer Time 1 July 2019

    A photographer who has spent more than 50 years capturing a power station's cooling towers is creating a new series of images before they disappear forever.

    Work is under way to demolish Ironbridge Power Station, a feature of the Shropshire landscape since the 1960s.

    Former newspaper photographer Dave Bagnall found himself at the top of one of the towers for a topping-out ceremony in 1967.

    The Ironbridge resident has been photographing them ever since.

    The body of a 21-year-old man has been recovered from a reservoir at a country park.

    Police were called to Chasewater Reservoir in Burntwood, Staffordshire, at about 18:00 yesterday to reports two people were in difficulty.

    A 13-year-old girl made it safely out of the water but the man died.

    The identities of the people involved are known to officers and their next of kin are being informed, a Staffordshire Police spokesperson said.
