  1. Inspection under way after car hits housepublished at 10:11 British Summer Time 4 July 2019

    The structural integrity of a house is being inspected this morning after a car crashed into it.

    The vehicle went into the side of the property on the A49 at Wellington in Herefordshire last night.

    Firefighters were called at 19:30 on Wednesday to help prevent the home from falling down.

    The road was closed until early this morning. There are temporary traffic lights in place at the scene at Marsh House Farm.

  2. Calorie counting apps 'can exacerbate eating disorders'published at 09:26 British Summer Time 4 July 2019

    Two people from the West Midlands have criticised calorie counting app creators with one saying it allowed his eating disorder to "spiral".

    Jack Henderson, 21, from Newport, Telford, said MyFitnessPal was "controlling" him and he ended up seeking help at a specialised clinic.

    Holly Moyse, 25, from Walsall, told the BBC she developed anorexia while using the same app to track her food intake.

    The BBC found content logging self-harm and punishments for over-eating on MyFitnessPal, Lose It! and Lifesum.

    Eating disorder charity Beat said the mobile apps could exacerbate unhealthy behaviours and make recovery harder.

    The app developers said they promoted healthy eating, and safeguards to protect vulnerable users were in place.

    A grass cutting contractor spent hours creating a football pitch "fit for Wembley" for nearby children and earned praise on social media.

    Jimmy Broadhouse's work at the council field in Bilbrook, near Wolverhampton, has had three million views so far.

    The 42-year-old, from Ditton Priors in Shropshire, is known as Jimmy the Mower.

    He’s received hundreds of positive comments and been deluged with offers of work.

    Patient appointments and surgery at two hospitals in Staffordshire are back to normal, external, an NHS trust has said, after two days of cancellations and disruption.

    The University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust said IT services and phone lines went down on Tuesday at the Royal Stoke University Hospital and the County Hospital, Stafford.

    That led to all outpatient appointments being cancelled yesterday along with some elective surgery. , external

    It has all been sorted out now, the NHS trust has said, and all appointments and surgery will "run as usual" today.

    A widow says she's angry a hospital didn't give her husband antibiotics sooner as "that could have made all the difference" from him dying of sepsis.

    Last July, Simon Smith went to his local A&E department, at Russells Hall Hospital, in Dudley, West Midlands, with pain in his leg.

    He quickly started deteriorating but it was a full six days before he was given antibiotics and, by that time, sepsis had taken hold.

    His widow, Hayley, said: "I've seen notes acknowledging he should definitely have had them on day two - but it didn't happen."

    Dudley Group NHS Trust said it recognised there were "areas of learning" from the case but could not comment further until the inquest into his death had been held.

    It comes as the UK Sepsis Trust are warning patients' lives are being put at risk because of delays giving them treatment for sepsis.

    A new search in Worcestershire by police investigating the disappearance of estate agent Suzy Lamplugh is expected to last about two weeks, a force spokesperson has said.

    The body of Ms Lamplugh, who disappeared from London in 1986, has never been found and her killer never charged.

    Metropolitan Police officers announced yesterday that they had begun searching areas of land in Pershore.

    Ms Lamplugh's family has been notified and police will remain at the scene until a "thorough search" is complete.

    A large police cordon's been seen along the main road, the B4084, on the outskirts of Drakes Broughton in Pershore, and a mechanical digging device was checking sections of the field along with a dog unit.

    A student paramedic has died in a crash involving an ambulance and a car in Staffordshire, police have said.

    The collision happened yesterday evening at the Anslow Road junction with Belmot Road in Needwood, near Burton-upon-Trent., external

    The ambulance service said the 31-year-old university student paramedic suffered critical injuries, was airlifted to hospital but died shortly after arriving. , external

    Two other ambulance crew members were also taken to hospital but later discharged while the woman driving the BMW 3 Series suffered a leg injury.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service's chief executive said the death would affect all the staff.
