    Police investigating the disappearance of estate agent Suzy Lamplugh say officers will remain at land in Pershore "until a thorough search has been completed".

    At the scene today, police taped off a woodland area off the B4084 and a digger could be seen behind the cordon.

    A marked police car guarded the scene and a dog unit was also present. As searches continued, officers used chainsaws to cut back some of the overgrowth blocking their path to the site of the dig.

    The body of Ms Lamplugh, who disappeared from London in 1986, has never been found and nobody has ever been charged in connection with her death.

    Officers from West Mercia Police are supporting the latest search, which the Metropolitan force said was not connected to the owner of the land.

    Nearly 700 parking penalty notices have been wrongly issued by Cheshire East Council, according to a parking review.

    It's been revealed the council incorrectly gave out 675 penalty charge notices between October 2015 and March this year on car parks in Alsager, Holmes Chapel and Sandbach.

    Councillor Rod Fletcher told BBC Radio Stoke drivers who've been charged by mistake are being urged to claim a reimbursement.

    He says it looks like a blunder by the authority.

    Theresa May has praised the "renaissance" of Stoke-on-Trent as its six towns seek more funding to improve their high streets.

    At Prime Minister's Questions, the Conservative MP for Stoke-on-Trent South, Jack Brereton (pictured), appealed for extra cash and more specifically for Longton.

    He said the city was unique in being made up of six towns and "it's essential that all of those towns prosper".

    The prime minister said bids for the High Streets fund were being considered - and used the opportunity to complement the area.

  4. Man remanded after boxer's hit-and-run deathpublished at 18:26 British Summer Time 3 July 2019

    A man has appeared in court after a fatal hit-and-run in Limerick.

    Logan Jackson, 29, of Longford Road, in Coventry, appeared at Limerick District Court on Wednesday charged with the murder of boxer Kevin Sheehy.

    Detective Garda Pat Whelan told Justice Marian O'Leary he arrested Mr Jackson on Tuesday evening and took him to Roxboro Garda Station, and Mr Jackson made no reply when cautioned.

    He was remanded in custody to Limerick Prison and will reappear on 9 July.

    Mr Sheehy, 20, who was a champion boxer, died on the Hyde Road at about 04:40 on Monday.

    The victim, from John Carew Park in Limerick, was taken to hospital for a post-mortem examination.

    Police investigating the disappearance of estate agent Suzy Lamplugh say their new search is expected to last about two weeks.

    The body of Ms Lamplugh, who disappeared from London in 1986, has never been found and no-one ever charged over her disappearance.

    Metropolitan Police officers are now searching areas of land in Pershore.

    The search for Ms Lamplugh has come to Worcestershire before when police excavated a field near the former Norton Army Barracks on the outskirts of Worcester in 2000, 2001 and 2010.

    The 2010 site is near to the latest area of interest but that search was called off after no evidence connected to the case was found.

    Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) David Jamieson has dismissed fresh calls for his office to be combined with the mayor’s.

    This week Lord Hesseltine launched his ‘Empowering English Cities’ report at Birmingham Town Hall, which made a host of recommendations regarding the devolution of power from central government.

    Among these recommendations was the suggestion that the powers of the PCC should be transferred to the mayoral West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA).

    In March the proposals, which had been as part of the WMCA’s second devolution deal, were rejected by the seven constituent authorities due to concerns surrounding a public consultation over the matter.

    And, speaking after the publication of the report, Mr Jamieson said that now was not the time to be re-examining the proposals, instead urging the authority to focus on the issues at hand.

    “Since the report was commissioned the board of the West Midlands Combined Authority decisively voted down the mayor’s plans to merge his role and that of police and crime commissioner."

  8. Cardiac arrest at Antiques Roadshow filmingpublished at 17:42 British Summer Time 3 July 2019

    A man suffered a cardiac arrest where filming was taking place for the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow.

    The "importance of early CPR" was highlighted at Compton Verney Art Gallery and Park in Warwickshire, said the ambulance service which was alerted at about 11:55 yesterday.

    It added that just before it arrived the man's heart had successfully been restarted, thanks to "quick-thinking bystanders starting CPR and the work of the event medical team".

    The man, who received further treatment at the scene from ambulance staff and an air ambulance crew, was flown to hospital, where he is in a stable condition.

    Since last night, the University Hospitals of North Midlands Trust has been battling the issue which has affected their phone lines and email systems.

    This afternoon it tweeted to say the problem appeared to have been solved but staff needed to carry out safety checks before they could be absolutely certain.

    In the meantime, all outpatient appointments today at the Royal Stoke University Hospital and the County Hospital, Stafford, have been cancelled , externaland routine elective surgery's being reviewed "on a case-by-case basis".

    A community group has been praised for coming to the rescue of a flower festival targeted by thieves.

    Organisers of the annual ‘Bilston In Bloom’ festival have spent months preparing floral displays in the town centre in readiness for a visit from Heart of England judges later this month.

    Last month thieves stole dozens of plants donated by members of the public along with eight bags of soil worth £250 from St Leonard’s Church (pictured above) – setting the project back several weeks.

    However, Linda Leach (Labour Bilston North), who is one of the organisers, said she and volunteers in the town had been given a massive lift by a team from Wolverhampton community interest group Right Track who had visited the church to help replace the plants.

    The journalist and author also wrote for The Sunday Telegraph since its launch in 1961, covering a variety of topics including literature, religion and climate change.

    He famously opposed British involvement in the European Union.

    Land in Worcestershire's being searched by police investigating the murder of Suzy Lamplugh, who was last seen alive more than 30 years ago.

    Estate agent Suzy, 25, from London, disappeared in July 1986 and was declared dead, presumed murdered, in 1994. A body has never been found.

    In November, the Metropolitan Police found "no evidence" in a search of a property in Birmingham but today said they received new information following the publicity of that probe. , external

    That's led to the force starting a search of several areas of land in Pershore, adding that the landowner's not connected to their investigation.

    They have informed Ms Lamplugh's family.
