    Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously injured in an apparent hit-and-run crash.

    The 49-year-old was getting into his car on Kenrick Way, in West Bromwich, at about 22:30 on Wednesday when he was hit by another car, officers say.

    He remains in hospital.

    Traffic diversions are coming to Broad Street in Birmingham from 2 September, as work to extend the West Midlands Metro to Edgbaston enters a new stage.

    The Five Ways underpass will also remain closed until the extension is completed in 2021.

    Bus services 9, 10, 12, 12A, 13, 13A, 126, X8, X10 will not stop along Broad Street between 2 September and spring 2020, while this work takes place. Services 23 and 24 travelling out of the city will also be diverted.

    Cars, taxis and delivery vehicles will be able to access Broad Street between Sheepcote Street and Gas Street.

    Midland Metro Alliance said hotels, bars and restaurants in the area remained open for business and that it was working with partners to "minimise the impact on the travelling public".

    A post-mortem examination has revealed a man who collapsed and died in Stoke-on-Trent this morning died from stab wounds, police say.

    The 20-year-old was found at the junction of Cavendish Street and Josiah Wedgwood Street, Etruria, at 02:40 and was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The area was cordoned off by police for a forensic search.

    Officers are appealing for witnesses or those with dash-cam footage to come forward.

    Here are some more photos from the huge garage fire that sent plumes of smoke that could be seen across much of Birmingham.

    West Midlands Fire Service said it started at about 14:20 on Cherrywood Road in Bordesley Green, but no injuries have been reported.

    Up to 35 firefighters are at the scene from stations across Birmingham.

    The fire service said it received about 20 emergency calls from members of the public and added the smoke could be seen from its own control room.

    The excavation started on 22 July in a project involving Shropshire Council and University Centre Shrewsbury.

    They said they made two key finds, the first being an enormous, 12m (39ft) wide defensive ditch around the 11th Century motte.

    Two arrows heads were also discovered which could pierce armour and which the archaeologists said were the first military finds from the castle showing its "bloody past".

    Complaints over rowdy parties and playing Neil Diamond's music could see The Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford lose its events licence.

    The college, based on Venns Lane is currently allowed to sell alcohol on weekdays from 11:00 to midnight and host music and other functions.

    But a report going before Herefordshire Council's licensing sub-committee next week , externalsays neighbours in Admirals Close have complained about noise from the venue.

    It says music was played past midnight on 29 June, including Neil Diamond's song Sweet Caroline, and residents claimed other cases of loud music, shouting and swearing.

    The council's officers served the college with a statutory noise nuisance notice which led to next Friday's review.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called by police at 15:05 to Dudley Street.

    Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and Midlands Air Ambulance have been at the scene.
