    Search and rescue teams have been working in "bitterly cold" conditions as efforts continue to find Dean Tate, who has been missing since Friday.

    Police, coastguards, fire and rescue crews, the RNLI and volunteer teams have all joined the search for Mr Tate, 40, who has not been seen since a night out in Burnham-on-Sea.

    Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher are the headline acts at The Downs festival , externalin Bristol this September.

    The line-up has been announced, with Orbital and Goldie also taking to the stage.

    Last year, the one-day festival attracted perfomers De La Soul and Elbow.

    The event will take place on Saturday 1st September.

    Tickets go on sale on Friday 2nd March, with £1 from each ticket sold online going towards the upkeep of The Downs.

    Heavy snowfall is affecting parts of the UK after several centimetres fell overnight.

    Amber weather warnings of more snow and very low temperatures are in place, external for Tuesday morning, and police forces are reporting "tricky" driving conditions.

    However in the West of England it should remain dry, with sunny spells and a few snow showers in the forecast.

    Homelessness charities have asked people to show kindness and raise any concerns they have for homeless individuals living outdoors over the next few day's.

    The weather is set to only get colder towards the end of the week.

    One charity has described the conditions as "killer weather".

    Multiple emergency services have been searching for a man who went missing after a night out in Somerset at the weekend..

    Dean Tate, 40, was last seen in the Somerset and Dorset pub in Burnham-on-Sea on Friday night.

    Avon and Somerset Police said his family and their officers are "increasingly concerned" for Mr Tate's welfare.

    47% said they'd received threatening, intimidating or nasty messages through social media, email or text.

    An inquiry led by Cheltenham MP Alex Chalk has found that around half of all young people spend more than three hours a day on social media.

    The report, conducted in partnership with YoungMinds and The Children's Society, says it's impacting on their sleep too.

    It calls on social media firms to make it harder for children under 13 to have their own accounts, to signpost mental health support services, and to pay a social media tax that would fund a public information campaign about cyber-bullying.

    The reports findings were based on a survey of over 1,000 young people aged 11-25.

    It was part of a Sport Relief challenge involving other BBC local radio and Points West presenters, and took place on the pitch at half time in the Bath v Sale match at The Rec.

    Repairs to Wellington Monument in Somerset are due to start in summer 2019, the National Trust has said.

    The 175ft-high obelisk is badly damaged and is expected to cost £4m to fully revamp.

    The charity said it had raised half the money needed so would carry out works to the most badly damaged areas until it was able to find the rest of the cash.

    If you're wondering why a number of scarves and woolly hats have been tied to lamp posts and street furniture, then here's the answer.

    It's part of a scheme to raise awareness of homeless people on the streets of Bristol, as the temperatures drop below zero for another night.

    Each item has a label attached - saying it is not lost property - but to take them if you're in need.

    The #KeepBristolWarm group hopes the initiative will spread warmth to those that need it

    Some of the scarves have been knitted by volunteers, and the idea has spread to places including Cambridge, Glasgow, Leicester, and Wrexham.

  18. Inquest into death of man living in special needs homepublished at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2018

    An inquest has opened today, in Wells, into the death of a man who died at a Tracscare-run care home in Somerset.

    The body of 33-year-old Robin Richards from Minehead was found at Highbridge Court in Burnham-on-Sea on the 29th June, 2015.

    He died four days later at Weston General Hospital.

    A jury at Wells Town Hall heard that Mr Richards had multiple needs arising from various mental health conditions, including Aspergers and ADHD.

    His sister, Amanda Richards, told the jury in a written statement that as a social worker she is "very used to dealing with complex needs" but that in the last few months of her brother’s life, in her opinion his care had been poor.

    The inquest is expected to last for two weeks.

    New lock gates are being craned into place along a stretch of the Kennet and Avon Canal near Devizes.

    Lock 18 has already been drained ahead of the fitting which happens today.

    Work to replace the old gates is part of a £38m maintenance programme.

    The new ones have been handmade by the Canal & River Trust.

    The body of a man in his fifties has been found outside sheltered housing in Moredon, Swindon.

    Officers were called to the grounds of Park Farm, The Street at 7.30am today (26 February) after a member of the public found the man.

    A post-mortem is currently being carried out and police are treating the death as unexplained as they continue with their enquiries.

    Anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious in Locksgreen Crescent or The Street area last night or first thing this morning is being asked to contact Swindon CID on 101.
