    Emergency services are dealing with an incident on railway lines between Taunton and Exeter St Davids, blocking all tracks, National Rail Enquiries says, external and British Transport Police have confirmed.

    Train bosses said journeys between the stations "may be cancelled, delayed by up to 90 minutes or revised".

    Disruption was expected to continue until about 19:00, it added.

    The nature of the incident is not known.

  3. Bristol man jailed for murderpublished at 16:13 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2018

    A man has been jailed for a minimum of 16 years after "brutally" murdering his estranged wife at their family home.

    Adan Dahir, 38, stabbed mother-of-two Asiyah Harris, 27, three times at the property in Ludlow Close, St. Pauls, in Bristol, in the early hours of Tuesday August 22, 2017.

    Today he was given a life sentence at Bristol Crown Court.

    The jury heard "compelling evidence" from witnesses who had seen the fatal attack through a window, Avon and Somerset Police said.

    Police have issued an appeal after four robberies where people were threatened at knife-point in Bath on Sunday.

    At 7.46pm a 21-year-old man was held up and had cash stolen in Margarets Buildings.

    Soon afterwards a 62-year-old was approached in Catherine Place.

    A 35-year-old woman was threatened by two men who stole her purse in Gloucester Street and a 22-year-old woman had her keys stolen at 8.15pm in Camden Crescent.

    Edward Colston was a slave trader in Bristol in the 17th century

    Edward Colston's statue, which stands on Colston Avenue in Bristol city centre, makes no mention of his past as a slave trader.

    Campaigners have continually targeted the statue in the past - adding unofficial notices, covering it with white paint and graffiti.

    Now the city council is proposing to put a plaque on the statue which will recognise and acknowledge the people Colston and others in the city enslaved.

    Children from Colston Primary School, which has voted to change its name, will help design the new plaque.

    He lost the limb in a motorbike crash nearly 40 years ago so the 58-year-old, from Gloucester, has had a rare medical procedure called Trans Muscle Reinnervation.

    He says it is "mind-boggling" that he is able to control the prosthetic limb using his mind.

    Snow is falling in some parts of the UK as bitterly cold weather has swept in from Russia.

    A wind chill means that during the day it will feel like -10C to -15C.

    Yellow and amber weather warnings for snow are in place for Monday and Tuesday, covering southern and eastern England before extending to cover the Midlands, Scotland and Wales.

    Police say they're increasingly concerned for the welfare of a man who went missing after a night out in Burnham-on-Sea.

    Dean Tate, 40, has not been seen since Friday when he was in the Somerset and Dorset pub.

    Avon and Somerset Police said it was using a "significant amount of resources, including the police helicopter and dogs" to search for Mr Tate.

    Avon and Somerset Search and Rescue, HM Coastguard, the RNLI, Avon Fire and Rescue, along with Devon & Cornwall Police are also involved in the operation.

    A man needed surgery for facial fractures after a fight at a taxi rank in Gloucester.

    Two men have been arrested following the serious assault outside Cafe Rene shortly before midnight when a man was punched in the face.

    Gloucestershire Police said the pair, aged 47 and 27, attended a police station following an appeal where they were arrested on suspicion of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

    They remain in custody.

    Hundreds of people have marched through Bristol this morning protesting about university pay, expenses and pension changes.

    Strikes began last week in a dispute over pensions.

    Members of the University and College Union claim say they are striking because changes to the Universities Superannuation Scheme will leave a typical lecturer almost £10,000 a year worse off in retirement.
