    A lorry driver, found guilty of causing a crash that killed a Cambridgeshire police officer, can expect a custodial sentence the judge has told him.

    Danny Warby, 28, of School Road, Runcton Holme, King's Lynn, was driving a 13.6-tonne light goods vehicle along the A141 in Cambridgeshire when it veered into oncoming traffic seconds after he opened a text message, Peterborough Crown Court heard. 

    It clipped an oncoming lorry and showered two cars with debris before crashing into a Renault Clio driven by Cambridgeshire Police officer Sharon Garrett.

    The married mother-of-two, who was on her way home from work, was pronounced dead at the scene on 6 June 2014.

    Judge Stuart Bridge said: "This is a very serious offence with hugely tragic consequences and an immediate custodial sentence is inevitable."

    A lorry driver, convicted of causing the death of a police officer through dangerous driving, opened a text message seconds before the crash.

    Danny Warby, 28, of King's Lynn, was found guilty at Peterborough Crown Court of causing the death of 48-year-old Det Con Sharon Garrett.

    The five-vehicle collision took place on the A141 near Wyton, Cambridgeshire, in June 2014.

    Helen Guest, for the prosecution, said Warby, of School Road, Runcton Holme, was driving the 13.6-tonne light goods vehicle along the A141 in Cambridgeshire when he opened a text message on his phone.

    The court heard his vehicle crossed the white line in the centre of the road and clipped an oncoming lorry, showering two cars in debris, before crashing into a Renault Clio, driven by Mrs Garrett, which was also in the oncoming line of traffic.

    Mother-of-two Mrs Garrett joined Cambridgeshire Police in 1991.

    UKIP councillor Lisa Duffy will be cleaning the public toilets in the town of Ramsey tonight, despite being confirmed as a party leadership contender, she has told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

    Ramsey became the first town to be controlled by UKIP in 2011. She and her partner help clean the public toilets to save the £9,000 per year cost of hiring someone to do it. Their work helps to ensure the facility remains open. 

    She also revealed that one of her daughters has a "Nigel Farage Lego toy".

    We've been looking at plans for a protest in Cambridge against Public Spaces Protection Orders which the Manifesto Club says "allow almost any activity to be banned on the say-so of a single council officer".

    Councillor Simon Blackburn, chairman of the Local Government Association's safer and stronger communities board, defended the orders.

    He said they help the fight against "anti-social behaviour, such as aggressive begging, public drinking or racing in cars". 

    He added: "These are serious offences that make the lives of victims a misery - in some cases with tragic consequences.

    "Councils are determined to protect their communities from behaviour that ruins their quality of life or means people are scared to visit public places."

    Activists are due to hold street protests in Cambridge and four other areas against councils' "blank cheque powers" to punish certain forms of non-criminal behaviour in public.

    The Manifesto Club, which campaigns against the "hyper-regulation of everyday life" said Public Spaces Protection Orders, external "allow almost any activity to be banned on the say-so of a single council officer," and are "sterilising public spaces".

    The Manifesto Club said examples of nonsense rules included banning chalk drawings, loitering, and grazing sheep. 

    As well as Cambridge, street protests will take place in locations across the country at the weekend including Woking, Hackney and Swindon.

    Both trusts insist the merger will lead to imroved services for patients. The meeting is being held at 10:00 at Stamford Hospital.

    I've just spoken to Peterborough Crown Court where a spokesman has confirmed the jury in the trial of Danny Warby has retired to consider its verdict.

    Mr Warby, 28, of School Road, Runcton Holme, King's Lynn, is accused of causing a crash in which off-duty police officer Sharon Garrett was killed on the A141, near Wyton, in 2014.

    He denies causing death by dangerous driving.

    The sound of clinking champagne flutes across London today may well be coming from the bankers who worked on the £24bn deal to sell Cambridge-based technology giant ARM to Japan's Softbank. 

    The likes of Goldman Sachs, UBS and Barclay have bagged fees worth more than £200m, along with other financial advisers, according to documents released today.

    The fees cover advice relating to the structure of the deal. The documents also show that public relations advisers Brunswick, Finsbury and Sard Verbinnen will walk away with up to £6m. 

    Total fees and costs associated with the deal, including legal and accounting expenses, stand at £350m.

    Other firms set to share millions from the deal include Softbank advisers Robey Warshaw and French bank Lazard, which is working with ARM. 

    As part of the deal, SoftBank has pledged to double ARM's 3,000 workers and to retain its management team.
