    Eleven of this year's Team GB contingent at Rio 2016 come from Cambridgeshire, with four athletes - Nick Dempsey, Louis Smith, Hannah Macleod and Robbie Grabarz - having also competed at the London Games.

    Grabarz, from St Neots, was in great form going into the high jump final.

    The track and field athlete was rated number one in the world prior to the London Olympics and won a bronze medal. He'll be competing in Rio on Monday15 August.

  2. Delay expected due to Bryan Adams' concertpublished at 17:59 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    Delays are expected around Peterborough City Centre later with up to 10,000 people expected to attend the Bryan Adams', external concert on the Embankment. 

    It's part of his "Get Up" tour. 

    Fans are advised to leave plenty of extra time to get to the venue.

  5. Man seriously injured in Chatteris horse-drawn hearse incidentpublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    A man has been seriously injured near Chatteris after becoming trapped while loading a horse-drawn hearse. 

    Firefighters were called to the scene on Thursday. He was later flown to hospital with a serious leg injury.

    Chatteris-based Townies Carriage Hire confirmed the man was a member of staff and said they were supporting his family.

    The company added: "We are deeply upset by this very serious incident and we are doing all we can to support a much loved and respected member of the team, and his family through this difficult time."

    There are major delays on the A14 this evening following an accident at J28 for Barhill, stretching back to the Spittals interchange at J23.

    The M11 northbound is also congested between J11 at the A10 and J13 for the A1303.

    Clare Balding - who will anchor BBC TV's Rio coverage - has been meeting triple Olympic medalist Louis Smith as he prepares for his third Olympic Games.

    The programme - Clare Balding Meets - will be broadcast tonight at 22:00 on BBC Two.

    The TV presenter has also been speaking to Cambridgeshire Paralympic sprinter Jonnie Peacock who told her about his mother's conversation with a medium who predicted his 100m victory at London 2012.

    The Rio Paralympics, external begin on 7th September.

  9. Rio 2016: The East gymnasts going for goldpublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    Three gymnasts from the East of England are hoping to come home from Rio 2016 with medals hanging from their necks.

    Max Whitlock, from Hemel Hempstead but who now trains in Basildon, Brinn Bevan, also from Essex, and Louis Smith, from Peterborough, will compete for Team GB along with Kristian Thomas and Nile Wilson.

    BBC Look East caught up with the trio ahead of their departure for Brazil last week:

    Max Whitlock said he felt honoured to be selected to represent Team GB. 

    "I want to go there, enjoy experience and do my best... The results that we have got behind us as a team, gives us a lot of confidence and hopefully we can all have successful competitions out in Rio."

    About £200,000 worth of tools have been stolen from a wind turbine construction site in Doddington.

    A large shipping container at Ransonmoor Farm in Benwick Road was broken into between 19:00 on Monday 1 August  and 15:40 on Wednesday 3 August, police say.

    Specialist equipment such as drills and other tools were taken. A second container housing larger items was also broken into.

    Anyone with information, or who may have recently been offered tools for sale, is asked to contact Crimestoppers, external or Cambridgeshire Police on 101.

    Fifty years ago this month, Sinclair Radionics, founded by home computer pioneer Sir Clive Sinclair, unveiled the Sinclair Microvision - the world's first complete pocket television set... we know, you'd have needed a big pocket!

    Manufactured by Sinclair Radionics Ltd of Cambridge, this 20 transistor set has a tube with a diagonal measurement of only 2in (5cm).

    Sir Clive later developed the ZX80, ZX81 and Spectrum home computers.

  12. Rio 2016: Louis Smith gears up for his third Olympicspublished at 14:53 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    Gymnast Louis Smith, who trains at Huntingdon Gym, external, will compete in his third Olympics tomorrow. 

    Smith was a bronze medallist in Beijing and won silver on the pommel horse and bronze in the all-round competition in London four years ago.

    Before his departure for Rio he told BBC Look East: "To really help my chance of making the team I had to prove to the selectors I'm a gymnast and not a celebrity who does gymnastics part time."

    Smith retired in 2013, but made his comeback in 2014 in time for the Commonwealth Games where he was placed third in the pommel horse.

    "When I came back after my break I not only had to get my fitness back but I had to improve, which was tough," he said.

    He has been settling in to the athlete's village this week, and even had the opportunity to get in some practice with his team mates in the gymnastics venue.

  14. Rikki Neave death: Child murder suspect will 'not contest' extraditionpublished at 14:04

    A man suspected of murdering a six-year-old boy 22 years ago is to be extradited from Portugal after leaving the UK while on bail.  

    Rikki Neave's naked body was found in woodland near his Peterborough home in November 1994. He had been strangled.

    James Watson, 35, from Peterborough was arrested and bailed in April. He was re-arrested in Lisbon on Tuesday. He appeared in court where police said he was "not fighting extradition".

    The football season gets under way tomorrow with Peterborough United in action away at Rochdale. 

    Manager Grant McCann says the games are coming "thick and fast" in the first month and he may have to disappoint some players who'll be left on the bench for the first few games.

    He said: "We've got 51 games in total and that's if we get knocked out first round of the cup, so that's a lot. Those players could get their chance at any time through injuries and lack of form".

    A sweet natured six-year-old is on a mission to "cheer people up" so she's been gathering stones from her Cambridgeshire garden which she then paints and varnishes with bright patterns.

    Grace Jolly has been giving the cheery tokens to people passing her house at Wisbech St Mary in the hope they'll have a happy day.
