Cambridge United, external drew 1-1 against Barnet in the season's opener on Saturday. Piero Mingoia opened the scoring in the 61st minute, with Barnet's Alex Nicholls equalising in the 85th minute on his debut for the club.

Manager Shaun Derry told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "We were expecting a better performance, but we didn't deliver. We looked nervous and edgy and didn't create chances."

Mingoia, who was one of a number of new players who've recently joined the club, said it was a hard game and the squad were put under pressure early. 

When asked if the five debutantes in the team was a factor he said: "We've had the whole pre-season and we've jelled well. I think there's a few things we can work on." 

It will continue to brighten up through the afternoon and feel pleasant in the sunshine.

A man admits causing a crash that resulted in a footballer having both legs amputated and another sustaining a serious leg injury.

Flying embers from a garden bonfire are thought to have caused a fire at property in Cambridgeshire.

Crews from Wisbech, March and Long Sutton were called to a shed fire in Gorefield Road, Leverington, on Sunday. When crews arrived they found fencing and a shed alight, which was affecting a nearby house.

Station commander Stuart Smith said: "We believe this fire was caused by embers from a bonfire in a neighbouring garden being carried by the wind and spreading.

"We would urge residents to take their garden waste to a local waste and recycling centre rather than build bonfires in their gardens. They can spread quickly and easily and can cause great damage," he said.

A man is arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a woman is found in Peterborough.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a woman was found in a property in Peterborough.

The woman, believed to be in her 40s, was found after police were called to a report of a sudden death at an address in Taverners Road, Millfield, about 18:30 on Sunday.

A 63-year-old man has been arrested and is currently being questioned by detectives.

A petition to save the home birth team in Peterborough, external has gain more than 1,000 signatures after the NHS Trust that runs them said it it wants to replace the team with regular community midwives.

Rosanna Payne, who's an independent midwife, said she has seen an upturn in women opting for a home birth and that it's the wrong time to be disbanding a dedicated team.

She said: "Mothers need midwives to be completely immersed in the birth experience, that sense of control is very important for labour hormones. 

"There's no guarantee that a community midwife will even be available for a home birth in Peterborough if the team is disbanded."

More than a thousand people in Peterborough have signed a petition to save a group of midwives dedicated to working with home births. 

The NHS trust that runs Peterborough City Hospital wants to disband the team - and have regular community midwives deliver home births instead.

Sherri Smith has three children, one of whom was born the help of the home birth team. Now expecting again she said: "To hear they might not be around when I'm due to give birth and I might have a random midwife instead makes me really sad."   

Fran Gregory, head of midwifery for Peterborough, said they want to provide increased continuity of care for everyone and that the proposal to disband the home birth team is part of a wider look at the community midwifery service.

She added the move does not mean there will be fewer midwife posts but it's about "removing that team idea and spreading it out across the locality. I can't guarantee things will be exactly the same."

More on the news that a man from Haverhill has pleaded guilty to two counts of causing injury by dangerous driving when a footballer lost both legs after an accident on the A14 in July.

Shaun Whiter, an estate agent in Stansted, Essex, was due to begin training with Newmarket Town FC when he was hit by Jan Adamac's car while helping his friend Joey Abbs to change a tyre. 

Adamec, 40, from Shetland Road, Haverhill, did not stop after the accident.

Mr Whiter's injuries were so severe, he had to have both legs amputated. Mr Abbs, a player with Soham Town Rangers, also sustained serious injuries to his legs.  

Former England footballer Keiron Dyer captained a charity team to raise money for both players, external, while Premier League footballer Mauricio Pochettino praised Whiter as "an inspiration".

Shaun Whiter (pictured), 27, an estate agent from Stansted, Essex, was helping friend Joey Abbs change a flat tyre in Newmarket, Suffolk, on 1 July when a driver crashed into both their cars.

Mr Whiter's legs were amputated and Mr Abbs sustained a serious leg injury.

Jan Adamec, 40, of Shetland Road, Haverhill, admitted two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, at Cambridge Crown Court.

He will be sentenced on 9 September.

Peterborough United's first game of the season resulted in an away win to Rochdale - with manager Grant McCann saying he's happy with the team's performance. 

He said: "There's nothing better than winning the opening game of the season".

Posh came from behind twice to win with Gwion Edwards, Marcus Maddison (pictured) and Chris Forrester the scorers.

McCann admitted that Rochdale pushed them hard, saying that "this is a very tough place to come, there's not many teams that will come here and win this season."
