    Prayers are being said for the two men who were killed in an apparent hit-and-run accident near Peterborough on Tuesday.

    John Randall, the vicar of St Peter's in Yaxley told me the "whole community is shocked and desperately saddened" by the incident.

    He explained as the community is so "close-knit" they are "rallying around and will do all they can to support the family of the two young men".

    It seems like the auction of the letters of Diana, Princess of Wales is getting a lot of interest from around the world. 

    Ex-Buckingham Palace steward Cyril Dickman's collection is going under the hammer at the Cheffins auction house in Cambridge shortly.

  3. Full steam ahead for Flying Scotsman's returnpublished at 13:45 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2017

    A welcome sight is due to return to Cambridgeshire railway lines. 

    Last year crowds flocked to Peterborough to see the newly-restored Flying Scotsman, external locomotive roll into the city on its way to York.

    On the 1 July, it will travel from London King's Cross along the East Coast Main Line and steam into Peterborough at 08:45. 

    It will then stop off on its return at 20:45. 

  4. Travel: Water main works still causing problems in Huntingdonpublished at 13:33 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2017

    There's slow and heavier than usual traffic on the B1514 Riverside Road in both directions in Huntingdon around the B1044 junction. 

    Congestion is also on the B1044 Post Street to the Causeway junction and to The Hollow junction.

  6. TB pilot screening programme helping to battle the disease in Peterboroughpublished at 12:43 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2017

    A pilot scheme run in Cambridgeshire to help people who may have a form of sleeping tuberculosis has been hailed a "success". 

    Since May, 30 patients have been treated for latent TB, external (where a patient is infected, but their body is strong enough to prevent the infection spreading) by being given antibiotics. 

    The scheme has been running in 12 Peterborough city centre practices and so far 250 patients have undergone a check.

    Dr Gary Howsam, from the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Clinical Commissioning Group, says although "latent TB is a lot more common than people think" it means by treating patients early they can be helped before they develop the disease fully.

    A man in an electric wheelchair has died after being by a car on the B1052 close to Brinkley in South Cambridgeshire yesterday. 

    Police say he was in a wheelchair "close to the road" at about 14:25 when he was "involved in a collision with a silver Peugeot Partner." 

    He was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital, but died this morning as a result of his injuries.

    On 1 April the Hinchingbrooke Health Care NHS Trust and Peterborough & Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation will merge and together they will run three hospitals (Hinchingbrooke, Peterborough and Stamford).

    So to find a suitable name, a poll to re-name the trusts was run and the result is in. 

    Some 4,500 votes were cast and the new name will be North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, external

    The three local hospitals names will remain unchanged.

  9. £100m investment for British Antarctic Surveypublished at 11:24 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2017

    The government has announced a £100m investment in the Cambridge-based British Antarctic Survey, external (BAS).

    The money will be used to upgrade its Rothera Research Station, external (on Adelaide Island off Antarctica) which will be home to the new exploration ship the RRS Sir David Attenborough (artist's impression pictured).

    Yes, that's the Royal Research Ship which at one stage was in danger of being called Boaty McBoatface in a public vote to name it.

    The Department for Business and Science says the upgrade will allow BAS to conduct more ambitious expeditions to untapped areas of the Antarctic and the Arctic.

    Science minister Jo Johnson said the investment will help ensure that "our world-class research sector has the tools it needs to thrive on a global stage".

    Former Peterborough player and manager Mick Halsall is crossing the divide - he's joining the coaching set-up at Cambridge United.

    The Posh stalwart (pictured right) made over 200 appearances as a player and managed the club for a short period between 1995 and 1996.

    He's now the U's first team coach - a role which has remained vacant since Mark Bonner returned to academy duties in November 2015. 

    Halsall left Notts County last month after a three-year spell as a coach, he briefly worked alongside U's boss Shaun Derry at Meadow Lane.

    Kevin Pilkington (pictured left) has also joined Cambridge Utd from Notts County. He succeeds Martin Davies as goalkeeping coach.

    Floral tributes have been laid by the side of the road close to where two pedestrians were killed in an apparent hit-and-run near Peterborough.

    The men have yet to be named by police, but it is thought they are in their late teens or early 20s and died at the scene of the crash at Broadway in Yaxley on Tuesday morning.

    A 38-year-old man from Essex was arrested on Tuesday night, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and actual bodily harm.

    At Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge staff are also coping with record demand. 

    Ten wards have had to close to new admissions after patients were admitted with flu, external.

    Dr Ewen Cameron from Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust says this means they've have to put "restrictions on people coming into the hospital to stop infection" and the message from the hospital is "if you have flu stay away".  

  14. Royal letters describe how Prince William 'adores his little brother'published at 09:02 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January 2017

    Diana, Princess of Wales' letters are being sold by the family of the late Cyril Mr Dickman, who was head Buckingham Place steward for more than 50 years.  

    They describe how a young Prince William "swamped" his new baby brother Harry, with "an endless supply of hugs and kisses".

    Photos, Christmas cards and cake from the Queen's wedding will also go under the hammer.

    The letters form part of about 40 lots from Mr Dickman's former estate, which is due to be sold.

    Cheffins, a Cambridgeshire auction house, said the letters formed part of "a unique collection of Royal memorabilia".

    Letters written by Diana, Princess of Wales, are expected to fetch about £1,500 when they go under the hammer in Cambridge today.

    The letters are mainly focused on Prince William and Prince Harry and explain how Harry was "constantly in trouble at school".

    Peterborough Hospital is currently full and is beyond black alert - running at 107% of its capacity. 

    It means the hospital is asking all patients to "consider all treatment options before attending the Emergency Department".

    Callum Gardner from the Peterborough & Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust says the hospital is "not in a position it would like to be in" and they are "working as hard as they can to increase the flow through the hospital and therefore to reduce the pressure on our emergency departments".
