The case against Det Con Nina Bartlett, based at Peterborough, had been due to be held in public.

The house of David Parr, an 'artist-painter’ who worked for the Cambridge decorative arts firm F. R. Leach in the 1800s, has won a £625,300 Heritage Lottery grant to repair and restore it, and open it to the public.

The house, on the Mill Road area of Cambridge, was decorated and hand-painted by Parr, who was inspired by designer and poet William Morris. Parr lived there between 1886 and 1927.

After his death in 1927, his granddaughter Elsie came to live in the house aged 12 and stayed there for the next 85 years.

Her regard for her grandfather’s work and the survival of her family artefacts has created a 20th Century time-capsule that tells remarkable stories of how ordinary people lived in Cambridge.

David Parr House charity was set up in 2014 to preserve the house. The grant will help "make a future" for the house, the charity said.

  6. Flytippers are 'thick', says councillorpublished at 16:04 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January 2017

    Adam Jinkerson
    BBC Local Live

A South Cambridgeshire councillor has branded people who flytip as "stupid" and "thick".

It comes after new figures reveal Peterborough and Cambridge city councils rank near the top of the list among UK council's for giving out fines to flytippers.

This comes since new powers were introduced in May.

    Flytipping

A freedom of information request by the Press Association found that Peterborough has given out 40 fixed penalty notices since May - the second highest outside of London. The total number of councils that gave out fines for the crime was 118.

Cambridge City Council also features at 22nd on the list, with 12 fines.

Fenland District Council gave out five, while East Cambs, Huntingdonshire and South Cambs all registered zero fines.

Mark Howell, who is in charge of environmental services in the district, says "a lack of intelligence" is the fundamental reason behind the problem.

"People put more effort into taking the rubbish down a woodland path than they would do taking it to the tip", he said.

"It's seems that these people are stupid and thick..."

The electric blanket caught fire in an upstairs bedroom while the couple who live there were cooking downstairs.

The couple were safely out of the house before the fire service arrived, but the man was looked at by ambulance staff at the scene after suffering from smoke inhalation.

Watch Commander Lee Allen said: "Electric blankets should be correctly stored over the summer months because if they are folded constantly it can break down the filaments causing damage. Also if any liquids are spilt on an electric blanket, we would not advise anyone use it."

Mr Allen also suggested that the blankets should be replaced "after five to 10 years".
