The rescue mission took just over two hours.

  5. New bus timetable results in reduced servicespublished at 18:02 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2017

    Tom Horn
    BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

Changes to Stagecoach buses across Cambridgeshire, which will see some off-peak services cut, came into effect this morning.

Services on the number 26 between Cambridge and Royston drop to one every two hours from once an hour, as does the number of buses on the number nine service from Ely to Littleport.

Stagecoach says the changes reflect the much lower number of people who use buses during the middle of the day.

Both the nine and 26 services will continue to run as usual during peak times.

  6. Flightless bird still on the loosepublished at 17:59 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2017

    Adam Jinkerson
    BBC Local Live

The hunt is continuing for a wild bird on the loose in south Cambridgeshire.

Police were alerted about to the sighting of a rhea, an ostrich-like flightless bird, in Thriplow on Christmas Day.

Ashley Bullard said on Friday that it could be his pet, which escaped from his home in Norfolk back in August. However, he says that he's not yet got close enough to it to identify if it is indeed "Lawrence".

Unfortunately, all attempts to catch the bird so far have failed.

Shepreth Wildlife Park said it was happy to help; however, it is currently on lockdown due to concerns over avian flu, so it can't take the bird even if it can be recaptured.

There have been several sightings of the bird, which can reach speeds of up to 40mph.

I'm on the edge of the cordon on the B1091 in Yaxley were two pedestrians were killed earlier today.

There's a cold, bitter wind on the edge of the Fens here; a grey and dull scene.

There are two police vehicles parked on the entrance to the B1091 towards Farcet, at the north side of the village of Yaxley - protecting a live investigation a couple of hundred yards around a corner behind them.

The road in the distance is taped off and there is the hint of a hive of police activity.

It is a busy road: many cars and lorries have had to pull up and turn away in the time I've been here.
