  2. Yaxley double-fatal 'incident': Locator mappublished at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2017

    We have been reporting a double-fatal incident in Yaxley, near Peterborough, in which two people are reported to have been killed.

    Police initially classed the incident as an RTC (road traffic collision) but now say they aren't sure of the circumstances.

    We'll bring you more information as soon as we have it.

    Police say that the circumstances in which two people were killed in an apparent crash involving two pedestrians and a car are still not clear.

    A new statement from Cambridgeshire Police says that the crash was "initially recorded as an RTC, however we are not sure of what has happened at this time".

    Two people have died in a crash on the B1091 Broadway in Yaxley after a crash, police say.

    Officers were called at 11:12 to reports of a collision involving two pedestrians and a car.

    An air ambulance attended.

    The road is currently closed in both directions and motorists are ask to avoid the area.

    The UKIP councillor for Ramsey, Lisa Duffy, has been appointed to lead the party's policy on foreign aid.

    New leader Paul Nuttall says she's the right choice to "reassess who should receive our hard-earned foreign aid".

    Ms Duffy, who is town and district councillor for Ramsey, told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire that the party wanted to focus on "life-saving programmes".

    "I have a passion to make sure that our country's and taxpayers' money is spent in the right way."

    It's the unusual story that keeps on giving.

    A scorpion that stopped a train service at Peterborough on New Year's Day after it crawled out of a passenger's bag, has given birth!

    The bark scorpion, said to have travelled over from Guatemala after stowing away in the luggage of a woman who had recently arrived back from there, was taken to the Exotic Pet Refuge in Deeping St James, Lincolnshire.

    Darren Mansfield, from the centre, said: "I went down to check on her this morning and as I looked inside her enclosure, I saw a two or three babies in there.

    "There's a couple more mouths to feed now!"

    Mr Mansfield said that the scorpions would now spend the rest of their lives at the refuge.

    There was late drama for Peterborough United who secured a 1-1 draw away at Scunthorpe United yesterday.

    Posh went 1-0 down just before half-time to a free kick from the home team.

    However, Posh's persistence was rewarded six minutes from full-time when a deep cross struck Scunthorpe defender Charlie Goode and nestled inside the far post.

    Posh boss Grant McCann says that the result was reward for a much-improved second-half performance.

    Peterborough slipped to eighth in League One as a result of the draw.

    It was an easy start to 2017 for Cambridge United, who brushed past Notts County yesterday with a 4-0 win.

    Luke Berry scored twice, with the first goal coming when he charged down the opposition goalkeeper's kick and saw the ball rebound into the net.

    Uche Ikpeazu made it 2-0, before Berry doubled his tally four minutes later. Piero Mingoia added a fourth in the 69th minute.

    Manager Shaun Derry said it was an "excellent performance" from his players. He's been nominated for the League Two Manager of the Month award, after 10 points from four games in December.

  13. Peterborough hospital 'busiest it's ever been'published at 08:30 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2017

    Peterborough City Hospital has declared a "critical internal incident" after it faced "an unprecedented demand" for care in its accident and emergency department within the last 24 hours.

    Extra staff have been called in to assess patients turning up at A&E.  

    The trust that runs PCH says it follows an extremely busy festive period. The hospital control team is currently meeting to review the current situation.

    They stress that if you do need A&E then do not avoid going. But if you do not, the walk-in centre on Thorpe Road is open until 20:00 this evening.
