It's been confirmed Huntingdon Waitrose will close in the autumn after bosses said they would be "exercising the break clause in the lease", allowing them to shut the store.
The supermarket on St Benedict's Court is more than 40 years old.
Waitrose said the investment needed at the store was "unlikely to allow it to be profitable over the long-term".
Neil Westbrook, head of retail operations, said: "This is very much a last resort, but we have not been able to find a way to make the shop profitable.
"We understand the disappointment this will cause and are incredibly grateful to those who have expressed their support."
The store, which employs about 100 members of staff, will close on Tuesday, 5 September.
A petition set up to try and save it from closure gathered almost 2,000 signatures.
