    MEP Bill Etheridge announces he is to stand as leader of UKIP.

    The leadership race was sparked by the resignation of Nigel Farage, who quit following the EU referendum vote.  

    Many of UKIP's best-known faces have been blocked from contesting the leadership after the Eurosceptic party's ruling National Executive Committee (NEC) said all candidates must have been a member for at least five years.

  3. Ammonia attack PC wins regional bravery awardpublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 15 July 2016

    A police officer who had ammonia thrown in her face and eyes by a violent gang has been named as the Midlands winner at the Police Bravery Awards.

    Constable Sara Skinner was attacked in Lillington, Leamington Spa, in April 2015. 

    She said the burning "felt like it was eating my face away".

  4. Last day for pupils at Woodlands Academypublished at 11:01 British Summer Time 15 July 2016

    All-boys school Woodlands Academy in Coventry will close it's doors for the last time today, as pupils move to a new academy at Tile Hill Wood.

    Despite strong protests from both pupils and parents, plans to combine the two single-sex schools into one co-educational academy was given the go-ahead by government earlier this year.  

    The headteacher and governors at Woodlands said because of a decrease in parents choosing single sex education, the academy had become "unviable".

    One person has been taken to hospital suffering from the effects of breathing smoke following a fire in a flat in Atherstone., external

    The fire service says 10 firefighters were sent to deal with it at a property in Coleshill Road shortly after 01:00.

  6. Safety warning over Pokemon Gopublished at 09:23 British Summer Time 15 July 2016

    Safety advice for Pokemon Go gamers has been issued by police in Warwickshire, external after the mobile phenomenon was launched in the UK.

    Demand for the app is so high new account registrations are periodically unavailable.  

    Some people have raised concerns about the app's safety. The chief executive of children's charity NSPCC urged the app's makers, external to adapt the game before its UK release, warning adults could use it to prey on children.

    Shakespeare's last will and testament will go on display in Stratford-upon-Avon tomorrow for the first time since it was written 400 years ago.

    It'll only be on show there for three weeks before it is hidden away again to stop it fading.

    The exhibition, at Shakespeare's Birthplace, will be the last opportunity to see the will before it is rested for a recommended 20 years.

  16. Pair deny Stratford woman murderpublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 14 July 2016

    Two people have denied murdering a woman found with neck injuries at a property in Stratford-upon-Avon.

    Bethany Marie Hill, 20, was found in Hertford Road during the evening of 3 February.

    Jack Williams and Kayleigh Louise Woods from Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, entered not guilty pleas at Warwick Crown Court.

    Mr Williams, 20, of Redlands Crescent and Ms Woods, 22, of Hertford Way, were remanded in custody, with a trial due to start on 1 August.
