    Kirstie Logan-Townshend, 26, Mr Townshend's daughter, confirmed she had asked for the ceremony to be postponed as the family did not think it was an appropriate time for it to take place.

    Mr Townshend is alleged to have taken out a mortgage on an elderly woman's house without her knowledge while he had power of attorney.

    A ceremony to award a posthumous degree to a councillor facing fraud allegations has been postponed at the request of his family.

    Police are investigating whether Philip Townshend, a Coventry city councillor, was involved in mortgage fraud prior his death in 2015.

    It has been claimed Land Registry documents show he got his female victim to sign blank cheques and papers.

    The University of Warwick ceremony was due to take place this month.

  8. Six charged over running Coventry drug networkpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 14 July 2016

    Six men have been charged with running a cocaine and ecstasy supply network, external following a series of raids, say West Midlands Police.

    The man, aged between 19 and 32, have all been charged with conspiracy to supply drugs and are set to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court later today.

    With 400 cases of forced marriage reported in the West Midlands last year, a national conference is being held today to tackle honour-based violence.  

    West Midlands Police has seen an increase in cases of people being forced into wedlock. 

    Officers also secured 27 special protection orders for those at risk.

  10. Ex-councillor's posthumous degree postponedpublished at 14:09 British Summer Time 14 July 2016

    The University of Warwick has postponed the award of a posthumous degree to the late Coventry deputy leader, Philip Townshend.

    In a statement, the University say they were contacted by the family of Mr Townshend to "ask if we were willing and able to postpone the ceremony", due to take place on July 23, "until our next set of degree congregations".

    "We have agreed to the family's request," it said.

    The company behind the High Speed Rail scheme between London and the Midlands, which runs through Warwickshire, says the project is "on track", despite it being over-budget. 

    Following the vote for Britain to leave the EU, some MPs are calling on Theresa May to scrap the project.

    Emergency crews spent two hours tackling a fire which they say was threatening crops in Studley.

    They were called to the large tree fire on land near Priory Court just after 19:00.

    Water had to be pumped from a nearby river to bring it under control.

    Three lanes of the M42 northbound are closed and there are long delays due to an accident between J3a (M40) and J4, A34 (Shirley).
