This must surely be Britain – one day you’re basking in scorching sunshine, the next you’re hearing storm warnings. But after a spate of wet weather caused localised flooding across Warwickshire earlier this year, what do such forecasts mean for us?

Environment Agency Midlands, external says there’s a “low flood risk overall”, but urban areas may see drains “overwhelmed” by this evening.

  8. Firearms: Can you tell the difference between replica and real?published at 12:05 British Summer Time 20 July 2016

It's a split second decision that armed officers have to make, but how would you fare?

Between April 1 and July 17 this year, West Midlands Police received 81 emergency calls from members of the public who reported seeing people with firearms that turned out to be BB or air guns. The replicas, though, look just like the real thing and it's led to a force warning that they should never be carried in public.

He walked away but was chased by the person with whom he'd been arguing. She grabbed his arm and threw him to the floor, resulting in a bloody nose.

  10. Airguns carried in public prompting armed police responsepublished at 11:02 British Summer Time 20 July 2016

Between April 1 and July 17, West Midlands Police received 81 emergency calls from worried members of the public who reported seeing people with weapons that turned out to be BB guns or air weapons.

The force has been warning that replica firearms should never be carried in public amid the spate of scares that were false alarms. Det Insp Jim Colclough said: "Some of these air weapons are very realistic… it’s difficult to tell them apart from the real thing.

"We always want people to report their concerns to us; the last thing we want is a blasé attitude and someone assuming it’s probably a BB gun. Our armed officers always have to treat callouts seriously, they can’t let their guard down and would treat the incident as a genuine threat until it becomes apparent they aren’t dealing with a live firearm.

"We’re reaching out to parents, teenagers and schools to hammer home the message that anyone carrying or using a BB gun in public could quickly find themselves at the centre of an armed response by firearms officers."
