  7. Academic fears hospital is vulnerable amid national cutspublished at 13:00 British Summer Time 26 August 2016

Nuneaton's George Eliot Hospital is "vulnerable" and has "question marks" hanging over its future, an academic has claimed.

The comments from John Lister, associate senior lecturer in health at Coventry University, come amid plans, seen by the BBC, that could see cuts to NHS services across England

NHS England, which needs to find £22bn in efficiency savings by 2020-21, says reorganising local services is essential to improving patient care. The NHS in Coventry and Warwickshire says George Eliot is not at risk of closure.

They do have to make very substantial savings in order to stand any chance of balancing the books, and the way that these NHS managers seem to regard savings is by effectively centralising services and reducing the local access.

A saucy tale has left people in a Warwickshire village scratching their heads - and an unfortunate few in a mess.

Police say that on at least three occasions, people in Henley-in-Arden have been targeted by a mystery sauce flinger whose 'weapon' of choice is tomato ketchup.

Eve, who works at The Three Tuns on High Street, said some of the pub's regulars had been victims of the condiment-squirting bandit.

A car drove past and just threw a plastic sauce bottle, which just exploded and went absolutely everywhere. It went all over the benches, all over the floor, all over the windows - it just narrowly missed somebody's head.
