    More than 300 children were missing from Coventry schools for long periods in 2015, according to figures obtained by the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire programme.

    Of the 320 children who were not in education of any kind in the past academic year, authorities were unable to trace 177 of them.

    Children are recorded as missing from education if they are of compulsory school age and can't be tracked typically for four weeks or more.

    The councillor in charge of education in the city, Kevin Maton, told BBC Coventry and Warwickshire it's a hugely complicated area.

    The future of speedway in Coventry is in doubt because of a failure to agree an extension to the lease on Brandon Stadium.

    Over the past few days fixtures and fittings including the floodlights from the track have been removed.   

    It had been thought Coventry Bees had secured a further one-year stay at the venue before it's handed to developers who have bought the site.

    Plans for how local health services will develop in the future are being hidden from the public, according to Coventry MP Geoffrey Robinson.

    NHS England, which needs to find £22bn in efficiency savings by 2020-21, said reorganising local services via sustainability and transformation plans (STP), was essential to improve patient care.  

    The Coventry North West Labour MP is calling for Coventry and Warwickshire's STP to be published immediately and for the public to be fully consulted about the proposals.

  11. JLR workers back 'exceptional' pay dealpublished at 18:00 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    Workers at Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) have backed a two-year pay deal described as "exceptional" by their union. 

    Unite said its members voted by 77% to accept a rise of 3.5% plus a £750 bonus, followed by an inflation-proof retail price index increase, plus 0.5% rise in year two. 

    The deal, which runs from the start of this month, affects workers at JLR's workplaces in Coventry, Castle Bromwich, Halewood, Solihull and Wolverhampton.

    Unite national officer Roger Maddison said: "This exceptional pay deal is no less than the workforce at JLR deserve and is recognition of their continued hard work which has made the carmaker such a world beater."

    There's confusion about the future of Coventry Bees Speedway this evening amid doubts over the strength of plans to extend their lease at Brandon Stadium.

    In the summer, it looked as though the Bees had secured a further year, with a new lease from 2017.

    It emerged today that outgoing stadium owners CoventryStox has been removing some infrastructure from the venue.

    Coventry Bees promoter Mick Horton said in a statement he was "away on holiday" and would need to inspect the site "before further decisions can be made".

    CoventryStox says Mr Horton has been aware "of the current removal of our property from the Coventry stadium site whilst on holiday".
