  1. Police release footage of speeding car flipping overpublished at 16:08 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    Police have released dashboard camera footage of the moment a car being driven dangerously through villages flipped over, scattering debris across the road.

    The vehicle had been pursued through streets in Rugby and nearby areas, before turning down a country lane where it crashed.

    In connection with the pursuit in September, Jareth York, 20, of Stowe Drive, Rugby, was sentenced on 25 November to eight months in prison after pleading guilty to driving a motor vehicle dangerously, driving without third party insurance and driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

    PC Rich Prior of Warwickshire Police said the lives of others had been put at risk.

  2. All seater stadiums safer, says sports ministerpublished at 15:39 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    The sports minister says all-seater stadiums are the "best means" to guarantee fan safety and security amid calls to allow so-called safe standing in football's Premier League.

    Replying to a written parliamentary question from Coventry Labour MP Jim Cunningham about the potential merits of "safe standing", Tracey Crouch said all-seater stadiums had "helped improve crowds management, crowd behaviour and policing".

    Six Syrian refugee families have been resettled in Warwickshire the county council's confirmed. 

    They were among a group who flew in to Birmingham Airport at the beginning of the month and have been given homes in the Rugby, Stratford, and Nuneaton and Bedworth council areas.

    Here's a sneak peek at the set of American drama series Will, which is being filmed at Dragon Studios in Wales.

    The production dramatises the lost years of young William Shakespeare after his arrival in London in 1589, with some episodes directed by Shekha Kapur - known for bringing us Cate Blanchet's Elizabeth.  

    It is backed by finance from the Welsh government which says it anticipates the production to generate £18m for the local economy.

    Show jumper Nick Skelton finally claimed an individual Olympic title at his seventh Games - aged 58.

    He became Britain's second oldest Olympic gold medallist.

    Having initially retired 16 years ago after breaking his neck in two places, the Warwickshire rider won on Big Star following a six-way jump-off.

    Joshua Millner, who secured shooting gold in 1908 at the age of 61, is the only person older than Skelton to have won gold for GB.

    David Broome was last show jumper to win Sports Personality in 1960.

    A man has been jailed for raping a woman more than 30 years ago.

    Ronald Dickens, 47, of Phipps Avenue, Rugby, pleaded guilty to the offence at Coventry Crown Court yesterday.

    Warwickshire Police said Dickens subjected his victim to a "brutal and violent" rape as she walked home in Rugby in 1985.

    The force said advancement in DNA technology allowed investigations into this and other cases to be re-examined.

  12. Two charged over Sikh temple disturbancepublished at 10:30 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2016

    Two men have been charged with religiously aggravated offences in connection with a disturbance at a Sikh temple in Leamington Spa. 

    Police arrested 55 men at the Gurdwara Sahib on 11 September before a wedding at the site.

    A man, 33, faces a charge of racially or religiously aggravated assault and a 37-year-old is accused of religiously aggravated criminal damage. They will appear in court in January. 

     A third man has been cautioned. No action will be taken against a further 52 men who had been arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass.

    A teaching assistant, who performed sex acts on a 15-year-old pupil, is starting a 32-month jail sentence.

    Jill Meldrum-Jones admitted a total of seven charges of sexual activity with a child, including including sexual activity, and was sentenced at Coventry Crown Court yesterday.

    The 37-year-old of Kineton in Warwickshire committed several offences against the boy during a flight and on a school trip.

    Two-time Oympic gold-medalist Nick Skelton has been shortlisted for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

    There's been a fault on a train between Rugby and Northampton which caused delays and cancellations for a while, the National Rail website , externalreports.

    The lines have now reopened but services between these stations may continue to be cancelled or delayed as services return to normal.

    A good service should be operating by approximately 09:30.
