    Mourners are wearing pink for the public funeral for Sophia MacDonald. 

    The seven-year-old Coventry schoolgirl died in a collision with a skip lorry on Henley Road in October.

    The service is being conducted by Revd Kathryn Fleming, Canon Pastor at Coventry Cathedral; to be followed by a private cremation service for the family.

    She said they've "worked hard not to make it a somber occasion," with lots of "Sophia's music".

    She added: "The service is unique for Sophia and we'll do our best for her."

    Conditions are right for Coventry to become a "world class hub" for IT startup and tech-based companies, the city's Conservatives say.

    Citing factors such as a lower cost of living and property values in the city, the party's submitting a motion to council on 6 December which, it says, could make the city the "UK's number one destination" for tech companies.

    The council recently unveiled a £15m plan for rolling out superfast broadband across Coventry and Warwickshire.

    A fourth straight league defeat against MK Dons has seen the City slip back into the relegation zone.

    A man has been arrested after a police officer was hit by a car in Stratford-upon-Avon. 

    Warwickshire Police said the officer was responding to concerns about a man's welfare when he was hit on Hathaway Green Lane at about 18:30 on Sunday. 

    He suffered minor hand injuries and has been released from hospital. 

    A 25-year-old man from Burton-upon-Trent was arrested in connection with the incident.

    A group of Sky Blues supporters held a mock funeral ahead of the club's League One game with MK Dons at the Ricoh Arena.

    Among the "eulogy" from Covfans2gether were the words "in affectionate remembrance of Coventry City Football Club which is dying due to neglect".

    They were directed at owners Sisu.

    City fans have been protesting against Sisu who have yet to arrange a deal for the club to continue to play their games at the Ricoh Arena after next season.

    To end a sombre day for the Sky Blues, they lost the game 2-1.

    A woman died after being hit by a bicycle , externalin Bush Heath Lane Harbury, police say.

    The 71-year-old woman was walking with a family member when the crash happened, around 12:30 on Saturday 19 November.

    Police are trying to trace the cyclist, who stopped to help at the scene of the crash, but left when the air ambulance arrived, not leaving any contact details.

    The funeral of the Coventry schoolgirl killed by a skip lorry while crossing a road will take place today.  

    Sophia McDonald died at the scene earlier this month. She was seven.

    The public has raised more than £7,000 to pay for her funeral which takes place at Coventry Cathedral this afternoon.

    Coventry City Council has backed calls from Jaguar Land Rover for government support over its plans to build electric cars.

    The firm, based in Coventry, said it wanted to make the UK a "global centre of excellence" for battery research.

    However, it said it needed support from government to improve infrastructure and power supplies.

    Coventry City Councillor Jim O'Boyle said it was important the government "stepped up to the plate".

    The composer who helped craft the Doctor Who theme tune is set to be honoured by having a road named after her. 

    Delia Derbyshire, a music pioneer from Coventry, became the uncredited creator of the famous theme while working in the BBC Radiophonic Workshop.

    Her contribution to popular culture will be marked by Derbyshire Way in her native city.

    Pete Chambers BEM, director of The Coventry Music Museum, was among those to campaign for the recognition. He said: "Originally it was to be named Derbyshire Road, but I suggested "Way" instead, so it gave a double meaning, as Delia was a genius and strong personality and really did do things in her own way."
