  1. Online child sex offenders targetedpublished at 13:36 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2016

    Police have raided addresses across the West Midlands this morning, external in an operation targeting people viewing and sharing sexually explicit images of children.

    Warrants were carried out at properties in Stafford, Telford and Coventry.

    A 62-year-old man from Telford has been arrested on suspicion of possessing indecent images.

    A 55-year-old man from Stafford; a 52-year-old man from Stone and a 30-year-old man from Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent, were all arrested on suspicion of distributing indecent images of children.  

    Since Operation Safenet launched last year, teams across the region say they have carried out 593 investigations, arrested 353 people for sexual offences and safeguarded 491 children.

    A burst pipe at Kirby Corner Road in Coventry, external means that water supplies in the CV4 postcode area may be off, or left with very low pressure, Severn Trent says.

    The company says that engineers are on site now, and that supplies will be restored "as soon as possible".

    The leader of Stratford-on-Avon District Council's told BBC Coventry and Warwickshire that the authority could issue a compulsory purchase order for Wellesbourne Airfield.

    Earlier this week the authority received an application for demolition to pull down several buildings at the site which was once earmarked for 1,600 new homes.

    Cllr Chris Saint said that could threaten around 200 jobs if businesses based at the site struggled to continue, with campaigners saying a loss of buildings was likely to jeopardise aviation use.

    Motorists using a residential street in Coventry are at risk from cars parked there by staff from a neighbouring hospital, campaigners say.

    People living on Gainford Rise, which joins Clifford Bridge Road, say University Hospital Coventry workers leaving their cars at the junction are making it dangerous.  

    They have called for double yellow lines. A councillor says a petition will be considered by the authority.
