  3. Health leaders meeting to discuss plans to change the future of NHS servicespublished at 11:55 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2016

    Plans for major changes to the way the local health and care services operate in the future, known as Sustainability and Transformation Plans, are being examined by the council today.   

    The chief executive of University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, Professor Andy Hardy, and other local health leaders, are at Coventry City Council's health scrutiny board this morning. , external

    Professor Hardy told the committee the STP won't be put into action all at once, but will done more slowly in "separate work streams". 

    Plans to merge all stroke services across Warwickshire into one single unit in Coventry will take up to two years, according to Andrea Green, from Coventry & Rugby Clinical Commissioning Group.

    Nuneaton Town beat FC United of Manchester 5-1, to set up a clash with Stockbridge Park Steels in the next round of the FA Trophy.

    Leamington beat Dunstable in the Southern League Premier Division to stay top of the table.

    Rugby Town are out of the Birmingham Senior Cup, after losing 3-0 to Wolves at Butlin Road.

  6. Police crack-down after over 500 incidents of car crimes in just over a monthpublished at 10:53 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2016

    There's been a spike in car crime, according to Warwickshire Police, with 535 incidents reported to them between 30 September and 2 November., external

    The hardest hit areas are Nuneaton, Arbury, Atherstone and Leamington.

    The force says it has stepped up police patrols.

    A campaign to re-vamp the Rugby Museum in Rugby been launched. 

    A crowdfunding page has been set up, aimed at raising £25.000 thousand pounds for the museum on St Matthews Street, where William Gilbert made the first balls for the game (pictured).

    A Coventry jewellers re-opens today, the day after an estimated £100,000 of stock was stolen. 

    Olivers in Shelton Square was raided in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

  12. Funding of £1m agreed for body cams for policepublished at 08:54 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2016

    Police officers in West Mercia will begin wearing body cameras next year after the police and crime commissioner agreed to spend £1m on the scheme.

    The £1m is a joint investment with the Warwickshire PCC for the West Mercia and Warwickshire forces, with West Mercia putting up 69% of the cost.

    West Mercia Police says firearms officers and those carrying Tasers will be first to receive the new cameras, before they are rolled out across the rest of the force.

    An investigation by Midlands Today has revealed that at least three quarters of the MPs in our region have been abused or threatened while doing their job. 

    Out of the 63 members of parliament, 49 were abused on social media, 41 were threatened in person and five have been physically attacked.

    The director of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story took time out to invite his niece Ella Court - who has a rare genetic disorder - and her family to the set to make a special film.

    Gareth Edwards, from Nuneaton, used the opportunity to raise awareness of 14-year-old Ella's condition Angelman syndrome and the charity Assert, for which he is patron.

    His sister Lisa had always said that when her "little brother" became famous he could get "on board and raise the profile".
