    Two people have told the BBC why they turned their back on extremist organisations as part of a new campaign to tackle the issue.

    Nigel Bromage was a leading member of Combat 18 and was a far-right activist from the age of 16.

    German automotive company Brose UK is investing £10m in Coventry by installing new paint facilities, creating 30 new jobs.

    The supplier employs 900 people at its two plants in the city and is in the process of installing a paint shop which will be able to coat more than 3.5m seats a year.

    The People's History of the NHS aims to create a virtual museum of the service since it was founded in 1948.

    A wider roll-out of Tasers and the use of spit guards by police are to be discussed at a meeting between officers and MPs today.

    Six West Midlands Police officers assaulted on duty are at Parliament to call on MPs to do more to protect personnel.

    They're part of a delegation from the region's Police Federation addressing MPs in a meeting organised by Wolverhampton South West MP, Rob Marris.

  6. Next boss of HS2 could be given incentive bonus to staypublished at 12:54 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2016

    The next permanent boss of HS2 Ltd could be paid a bonus to avoid them being head-hunted by the private sector, the company's chairman Sir David Higgins has said.

    The first phase of HS2 is due to open in December 2026, with trains travelling at high speed between London and Birmingham through Warwickshire before continuing on the existing West Coast Main Line.

    Simon Kirby, who earns a reported salary of £750,000 as the organisation's chief executive, leaves this week to take a senior role at Rolls-Royce.

    Sir David told the Commons' Transport Select Committee that Mr Kirby's successor could be incentivised to remain in the post via their pay structure.

  7. Car spun into middle lane after lorry crashpublished at 12:40 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2016

    A driver had a "lucky escape" when a collision with an HGV span her car into the middle lane of the M6 this morning, the ambulance service says. 

    It happened on the southbound carriageway between junctions 3A and 3 just after 08:00.

    The motorist, a 27 year old woman, suffered back and shoulder pain. She was treated at the scene but didn't need hospital treatment.

    A planet located more than 1,000 light years away may have clouds made from the raw material of rubies and sapphires, say scientists., external

    Signs of powerful winds have been detected on a planet HAT-P-7b, which is 16 times larger than Earth.

    Researchers from the University of Warwick say it's the first time ever that weather systems have been found on a gas giant outside our solar system.

    Four films are being released today, external telling the stories of people from the West Midlands who were involved in extremism but have turned away from it. 

    The aim of the films, which are being published on social media, is to ask challenging questions about people's motives and whether they can change their ways. 

    They hope these stories will prevent others from following their former path.

  12. Girl cautioned over online 'gun' picturespublished at 11:17 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2016

    A 16-year-old girl has been cautioned for sending a malicious communication after posting pictures of herself holding a "gun" on social media.

    The teenager from Bedworth was arrested yesterday.

    After speaking to her, police said, they established there was "no intent and no threat" and the girl "previously of good character is extremely remorseful for her actions".

    A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police said: "The photographs were over a year old and show an air weapon."

    According to the force, it launched an investigation following "a report of an inappropriate social media post".

  14. Airfield owners 'surprised' at council stancepublished at 10:09 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2016

    The owners of Wellesbourne Airfield say they're "surprised" to learn of Stratford Council's ambitions to purchase it.

    At a meeting yesterday, councilors voted to try to buy the site to preserve its aviation use and safeguard jobs, following an application by the owners to demolish some buildings there.

    A statement issued on behalf of Littler Investments Ltd said "at a time when councils' resources are stretched, is this the best use of public money?"

    The statement also said as there was now an ongoing legal process, which would take months to resolve, the airfield could continue operating beyond the end of the year and until further notice.
