I know that this decision will be met with disappointment and sadness. Offa House holds a very special place in the hearts of many people in the village of Offchurch and hundreds of people across the whole Diocese of Coventry and beyond. It is always hard to let go of a much loved friend."

  13. Airfield's '£100m price tag' could scupper council planspublished at 17:01 Greenwich Mean Time 12 December 2016

A report into the future of Wellesbourne airfield suggests the council could be priced out of a purchase if the site's "£100m" potential for new housing is taken into account.

Stratford District councillors have today voted to try to buy the site to preserve its aviation use and safeguard jobs - applying to make a compulsory purchase order (CPO) if necessary. It followed last week's application to the authority over plans to demolish some buildings there.

The report into purchasing the site, external says if the land is valued for use as an airfield the price tag could be in the region of £5m. But should the Land Tribunal valuation take its potential for housing into account then the price could go up to more than £100m - making a CPO unaffordable.

The report adds there is no guarantee that a CPO process would be successful.
