    About 100 tonnes of rock salt has been spread on Coventry roads in the past 24 hours, the city council says.

    Paul Sherman, site agent at the council's Whitley depot, says he'll have teams on standby for the weekend as they're expecting more freezing weather.

    Coventry has the some of the most expensive railway station car park charges in the country, according to figures put together by consumer website Resolver, external.

    It says the £12 cost to leave your car at the station all day ranks as the sixth most expensive in its survey of 100 commuter towns and cities.

    The highest daily charges were found at Reading where, the website says, it costs £23.70 to park all day.

    National Grid has escaped calls to be broken up to prevent conflicts between its dual role of owning and operating key parts of the energy infrastructure.

    Instead a new, legally separate electricity system operator will be established within the Warwick-based company, the government says.

    In a statement National Grid welcomed the move saying it was best placed to deliver the system operator role during a time when the energy landscape is changing rapidly.

    Graham loved his cricket. He used to come and sit with me in the BBC Radio commentary box in the Lords pavilion on many many occasions.
