    If you can't make it to the War Memorial Park in person we'll be broadcasting live from the Godiva Festival bringing you all the atmosphere as well as some live music and backstage news over the weekend.

    We'll be broadcasting live between 14:00 and 18:00 on Saturday.

    If you're heading for the festival then do come and see us in the family field hosting the "We Are Coventry" community stage.

    Work to protect a local park from flooding will lead to the creation of a pond and play area, says Coventry City Council.

    More than 13.5k cubic metres of soil will be removed from Coundon Hall Park to help intercept any flood water coming off nearby land and a shallow pond will be created.

    It's hoped the new area will encourage frogs, newts and other wildlife to the park.

    There's to be a local derby in this season's FA Cup as Coventry United host Rugby Town in the extra-preliminary round.

    Coventry Sphinx and Coleshill Town have both been given home ties with Atherstone away on 5 August.

    The draws for the early rounds of the FA's Trophy and Vase competitions have also been made.

    It's looking reasonably dry for Coventry this weekend as thousands head for War Memorial Park for the Godiva Festival.

    There's the possibility of the odd shower tonight and tomorrow, with sushine and showers forecast for Sunday.

    The match will be on 1 September - the first with a 15:00 kick-off.

    Wasps will get their first chance of revenge for their final defeat by Exeter when the teams play at Sandy Park on 24 September, with Exeter going to the Ricoh Arena in mid-February, during the Six Nations.

    There have been more 999 calls to West Mercia and Warwickshire police this morning than there were on New Year's Eve.

    The forces say they've also received almost double the number of calls to their 101 non-emergency number and that they often see spikes like this in hot weather.

    They're urging people only to call 999 in a genuine emergency.

  9. Multi-vehicle crash on M42published at 15:02 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    Four vehicles are involved in a collision on the M42 between junctions three and 3a, says the ambulance service.

    It has an ambulance at the scene assisting one person who was trapped in a vehicle, and says one other was treated for minor injuries.

    They're urging visitors to bring their mobile devices to the event on Sunday for a free "cyber security health check" in collaboration with Get Safe Online.

  11. Man jailed for driving wrong way down M40published at 14:09 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    A man who drove more than 10 miles the wrong way down the M40 when drunk has been jailed for 19 months.

    Tony Chapman, from Tamworth in Arden, was eventually brought to a halt by police, who'd closed the carriageway after he was seen weaving across the road in Warwickshire.

    Officers had to use "tactical contact" to force the car against the central reservation as it left the M40 in Worcestershire to go on to the M42.

    During a police interview he said he had no recollection of driving the car.

    At Worcester Crown Court yesterday the 62-year-old admitted dangerous driving, driving while drunk, possession of cannabis, and taking a vehicle without consent.

  12. Man suffers fractured skull in Nuneaton assaultpublished at 13:41 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    A man's being treated for a fractured skull after an assault in Nuneaton town centre yesterday, police say.

    Officers say they responded to reports of an injured 19 year old on New Century Way at about 22:20 and believe it followed an earlier incident at the Co-op Club in Dugdale Street.

    A 26 year old from Nuneaton has been arrested and remains in police custody.

  13. Man who trafficked teens for sex now found guilty of rapepublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 7 July 2017

    A man currently in jail for trafficking girls who were sexually assaulted has now been convicted for the rape of a teenager.

    At Warwick Crown Court yesterday Zoaeir Tamari, from Lady Lane, was found guilty of raping a 17-year-old at a flat in Foleshill in 2014.

    Currently serving nine-and-a-half years in prison for sexually assaulting two girls aged 13 and 14, he was handed a further eight year sentence to begin halfway through his existing jail term.

    A man was treated in hospital after a failed robbery in Rugby on Wednesday, police say., external

    It took place in the area between South Street and Abbey Street at around 15:30, when a man approached the victim from behind and tried to take his mobile phone.

    Police are appealing for people to come forward who might have seen something suspicious in the area.

    Two sexual assaults in the Walsgrave area of Coventry could be linked, police say., external

    In the most recent, a woman was assaulted by a man who approached her on a bike while she was walking her dog in parkland off Bridport Close on Wednesday morning.

    Police say the "nasty", daylight attack follows similar in Hinckley Road on Tuesday 13 June.

    They're urging the public to be vigilant and take extra care when walking in the local area.
