    Messages of condolence, toys and flowers have been left at the site of a crash in Atherstone in which three teenagers died.

    A total of four people were in a BMW car, driving in The Common in Baxterley, when it hit a tree at about 16:40 on Sunday.

    A woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

    The three who died have not been formally named by police.

    A surveying app has been launched by Coventry University which, it hopes, will allow users to identify bumblebee species and record which flowers they visit.

    Researcher hope the "Blooms for Bees" app will help build a detailed picture of certain species' decline in the UK.

    A Rugby man has been charged with a series of sexual offences against children in the 1990s and 2000s, police say, external.

    According to the Warwickshire force, the charges faced by Douglas Miller, 56, pertain to three individuals.

    He is due to appear at Warwickshire Magistrates Court on 16 August.

  7. Woman arrested over fatal Atherstone crashpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 17 July 2017

    An 18-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following a crash near Atherstone yesterday in which three people were killed.

    They died at the scene when the BMW in which they were travelling hit a tree.

    The arrested woman was travelling in another vehicle, police say. She has been released under investigation.

    According to the Warwickshire force, the crash happened on The Common, between Merevale Lane and Waste Lane.

    An 18-year-old man travelling in the car in which the three died was taken to hospital. He is being treated for injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

    The men were arrested on Friday afternoon in Bedworth after a short police pursuit.

    The burglaries all took place on 13 and 14 of July in Nuneaton, Bedworth and Bulkington.

  9. Coventry University appoints its first female chancellorpublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 17 July 2017

    Coventry University's new chancellor has been named as Margaret Casely-Hayford - the first woman to hold the ambassadorial post.

    Ms Casely-Hayford, the current chair of international development at charity Action Aid UK, says the university "shares my commitment to equality of opportunity and I will be shouting out Coventry’s message that a university can be world-class while admitting talented students from a range of backgrounds."

    She was the first black woman in the UK to be made a partner at a city law firm. A Freeman of the City of London, she also serves on the Metropolitan Police Oversight Panel and spent eight years as a government-appointed trustee of Great Ormond St Children's Hospital Charity.

  10. Nearly 2,000 drug-driving arrests since change in lawpublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 17 July 2017

    Since changes to drug-driving laws, external in March 2015, police in the West Mercia and Warwickshire areas have arrested 1,834 drivers in connection with the offences.

    There was a clear increase in 2016, when 895 arrests were made across the two force areas and there have been 569 made in the first six months of this year.

    Nearly 85% of those arrests were made in Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

  11. Sensory garden to aid patient rehabilitationpublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 17 July 2017

    Patients who have suffered a stroke, brain injury or tumour are among those to benefit from a new hospital garden to help with physical rehabilitation.

    Obstacles in the garden, at the Leamington Spa Hospital, are designed to simulate everyday hazards around the home.

    A similar scheme in the Netherlands recorded a 46% reduction in the number of falls among patients who completed the programme.

    The West Midlands has among the highest reports of puppy farms in England.

    New figures released by the RSPCA show that 2016 was its busiest year for tackling the underground puppy trade.

    The charity says it's receiving more calls than ever from people reporting questionable breeders and dealers.

    The charity's findings also show that French bulldogs (pictured) are the most searched-for breed for sale online.

    On Midlands Today at 13:30 we'll be reporting from the scene of a crash in which three young people lost their lives.

    The BMW they were travelling in left the road and is believed to have hit a tree near Atherstone.

    Another teenager, a rear seat passenger, was taken to hospital suffering neck, chest and abdominal injuries.

    Two weather warnings for the West Midlands have been issued by the Met Office today, external.

    Firstly they say thundery showers are expected across the south of the region, including Herefordshire, Worcestershire and parts of Warwickshire, from tomorrow evening.

    Then from just after midnight on Wednesday they are expected to turn into scattered thunderstorms affecting the whole region.

    In both cases the Met Office says there is a chance of localised flooding where they hit.

    Coventry wheelchair athlete Kare Adenegan will try to win her second medal of the World Para Athletics Championships later today.

    The 16 year old, from Coventry Godiva Harriers Club, won silver in the T34 100 metres race on Friday night in London, with Hannah Cockroft taking gold.

    Tonight she goes in the T34 800 metres final.

    Her fellow club member Ben Rowlings will also compete on the track in the T34 400 metres final.
