The winners of £6.6bn worth of contracts to build the first phase of HS2 between London and Birmingham through Warwickshire have been announced by the government.

UK companies Carillion, Costain and Balfour Beatty are among the consortia who will build tunnels, bridges and embankments on the first stretch of the new high speed rail line.
The contracts will support 16,000 jobs.
The final routes of the Manchester and Leeds branches of HS2 are due to be announced later.

A murder investigation has been launched after a man died following an "altercation" in Nuneaton, police say.

Warwickshire Police said it was called to Harefield Road on Saturday at 13:05.
A man in his 60s was taken to hospital where he later died.
A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after being originally arrested on suspicion of assault. Detectives are appealing for witnesses.

One person was taken to hospital suffering neck, chest and abdominal injuries after a car crashed into a tree, killing three people, the ambulance service said.
The man, who was a rear seat passenger in the vehicle, was taken to University Hospital in Coventry.
Two men aged 18 and 19 were killed, along with an 18-year-old woman. They died at the scene of the collision on The Common in Baxterley at about 16:40 on Sunday.

Two men aged 18 and 19 and a woman aged 18 died at the scene of the incident on The Common in Baxterley, at about 16:40.
Warwickshire Police said it was still at the "very early stages" of its investigation and urged any witnesses to come forward.
