    A UKIP MEP for the Midlands is calling for permanent sites to be made available for travellers.

    Jim Carver has been responding to Warwick District Council's plans to spend £170,000 protecting land from illegal traveller encampments.

    There are currently two groups on land in the district which the authority says it hopes to evict by Friday.

    A woman from Nuneaton says she is bringing legal action against a tour operator after contracting salmonella.

    Mary Tweed booked a trip to Turkey through Thomson when she fell ill as she holidayed with her husband and son.

    The company has said it's sorry to hear of the family's experience but has refused to comment further as the matter is subject to legal proceedings.

    Car drivers are being urged to be more aware of motorcyclists as part of a police campaign.

    Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police have teamed up with the Safer Roads Partnership as part of a national scheme to reduce motorcycle-related collisions and casualties.

    Figures reveal 535 people were either killed or seriously injured in the Warwickshire and West Mercia policing areas by collisions involving motorcycles in the three years to 2016.

    Twenty-six people have been convicted under "psychoactive substances" laws in the first six months since they were introduced - but none involve West Midlands Police proceedings.

    It follows almost 500 arrests over the same period following a ban on new drugs like Spice.

    An addiction charity says laws alone will not tackle the problems of people in "zombie-like" states.

    Warwick District Council says it'll spend £170,000 to protect land in the area from illegal traveller encampments.

    The authority plans to install bollards and gates in areas including Othello Avenue Park in Warwick.

    It says people living in the area have been notified of the proposals.

    Coventry City has confirmed defender James Pearson has agreed to cancel his non-contract agreement with the Sky Blues.

    It means the 24-year-old leaves the club with immediate effect.

    The club has wished the player "the best of luck for the future" in a statement on its website, external.

    A charity in Warwick has paid tribute to Princess Diana on the 20th anniversary of her death.

    In 1986, Diana toured the Myton Hospice and was shown around by Dr John Henderson who said she brought comfort to the patients.

    The Coventry Irish Society is appealing for members of the Irish community in the city to share with them any memorabilia they brought with them to Britain.

    It would like to feature pieces in an exhibition at the Herbert Art Gallery next year in order to tell the story of Irish people in the city.

    Breege Carroll came to Coventry in 1964 with her mother to meet up with the rest of her family who had already made the move.

  15. Ambulance patient reports rape by staff memberpublished at 09:25 British Summer Time 31 August 2017

    A patient has made a report of rape against a member of West Midlands Ambulance Service.

    It is among the "serious incidents" involving ambulances that have risen by 16% in five years.

    The number of such events rose in seven of England's 10 ambulance areas.

    The union Unison said the rise reflected "intolerable pressures" facing ambulance workers. The Association of Ambulance Chief Executives said the incidents amounted to a "tiny" number of patient journeys.

    Reported cases include a patient conveyed by West Midlands Ambulance Service who ended up needing a leg amputation in 2014 after falling in an ambulance.

    Police have so far not brought any charges in connection with the rape report, made in January.
