    A charity has opened a series of "honesty shops" across North Warwickshire where people pay what they can afford for goods.

    More than 200 people a week are using the "People's Pantry, external" service, paying for their goods via an honesty box.

    Registration is necessary to become a member but you do not have to be on benefits and there is no limit to number of uses.

    The service is run by the county's Healthy Living Network with all the goods donated by local supermarkets.

    An early lunch has been called with no play due to take place this morning.

    Coventry's bid to become UK City of Culture 2021 is being discussed in Westminster Hall today.

    A debate, starting at 11:00 , external has been secured by the Labour MP for Coventry South Jim Cunningham.

    The city is on the shortlist of five, which includes Stoke-on-Trent.

    The winner is expected to be announced in December.

    Carmaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has hired the first software engineer recruited via a code-breaking app in conjunction with virtual band Gorillaz.

    The company hopes to find find 5,000 staff to enhance its expertise in autonomous and electric technology using the challenge.

    Daniel Dunkley, a 23-year-old from Gloucester, taught himself software skills from an early interest in playing computer games, said the company.

    So far JLR has interviewed over 50 code-crackers and offered positions to 13 people in total.

    The number of assaults on police officers in Warwickshire has risen by a third in the past two years, according to figures from the force, external.

    Between April and June of this year there were 71 incidents of officers being assaulted, while a total of 545 incidents have been recorded in just over two years.

    Simon Payne from the Warwickshire Police Federation said that some of these assaults are not only "vicious" but can be "life-changing for officers and their families" and can cut careers short.

    "Only the other day I met an officer that was bitten to such a degree they were hospitalised," he said. "We're just asking for the courts to support officers and hand out appropriate sentences".

    A phone, car keys and wallet were among items stolen from him during the attack, which happened near to the A46 in Alcester on Friday at around 19:00.
