Copeland's MP Trudy Harrison and the district's elected mayor Mike Starkie are both supporting campaigners trying to reopen Millom's swimming pool or have it replaced.
Cumbria County Council had said it would retain the pool for a year to allow time for other options to be developed, but now says it wants to demolish the structure within three months.
Mr Starkie told the meeting that he shared the community's frustration and he would be asking for a meeting with county council officials.
The main dispute is over the cost of retaining the existing pool, with the county quoting a repair estimate of £500,000, and the community group Save Millom Pool saying it would cost one tenth of that.
Quote MessageWe are disappointed that Cumbria County Council has reneged on its commitment for a 12-month delay to the demolition of Millom Pool to allow further consultation to take place."

An investigation by the BBC's Inside Out programme has shown that in 2017 there were more than 1,600 reports of domestic abuse against men in Cumbria.
The figure was 7% up on the previous year, but other parts of the North West showed a 200% increase, both changes probably reflecting an increase in men coming forward rather than more offences.
Dr Elizabeth Bates, a senior lecturer in psychology at the University of Cumbria who has studied this sort of abuse, says this figure could be the tip of the iceberg as some victims will not tell anybody.
Research suggests one in six men will experience domestic abuse at some point in their lives.
