    Derby's "Ramathon" had to change its name to "attract people from further afield", according to organisers.

    The event which has attracted over 5,000 runners in recent years, had built a following under the "Ramathon" name but was recently changed to the Derby Half Marathon following a takeover by the Run for All programme.

    Stuart Graham, who is in charge of publicising the event, said: "The feedback we've had so far has been positive...we wanted to take the best bits of the Ramathon but also make it more of a national destination for runners and athletes to come here and put something into the city."

    The race takes place on 3 June.

    About 3,000 jobs are at risk after Toys R Us was placed in administration.

    The firm has stores in Derby, Nottingham, Leicester, Mansfield and Chesterfield.

    Administrators have said they're looking to find a buyer and all stores would remain open until further notice.

    Derby City Council is taking its plans to reduce air pollution to the government today, after ministers told the authority it needs to create a clean air zone by 2020.

    The council won't reveal its proposals until after the meeting, but had previously said it is against the use of charging zones for the most polluting vehicles.

    Councillor Asaf Afzal, cabinet member responsible for the proposals, is hopeful their ideas will be "well received".

    He said: "We've been working on this for quite a while, we've spoken to residents and businesses to make sure we have a good proposal to take to London."

  14. A1 Peterborough and Stamford closure: 'Big recovery operation'published at 09:00 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    The A1 between Stamford in Lincolnshire and Peterborough has reopened after the road was closed because of adverse weather conditions earlier on Wednesday.

    Jack Tappin, from Highways England, said the organisation "began noticing some stranded vehicles" at about 01:00 and "some jack-knifed lorries".

    A 20-mile stretch of the road was fully closed while highways officials and police attempted to recover the vehicles, he added.

    "It's been a very big recovery operation across three counties - Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire," Mr Tappin said.

    Although the road had been gritted in advance, a number of vehicles became stuck and people were trapped for several hours.

    Highways England worked with ambulance staff and police to "ensure the safety and welfare" of people who had become stuck, Mr Tappin said, adding that no injuries had been reported.

    Community leaders in Leicester have condemned tweets by the former British National Party Leader, Nick Griffin, linking Sunday night's explosion on Hinckley Road to a 'jihadi bomb factory'.
