Labour's MP for Bassetlaw John Mann has said he intends to vote for Boris Johnson's new deal when it is tabled in the Commons on Saturday.

The MP, who campaigned for Leave during the 2016 EU referendum, said: "Seventy per cent of my voters voted for Brexit, the country did, and I'm going to vote accordingly."

"I'll cast [my vote] in the way that the majority for democracy requires and that is for us to leave the European Union."

Mr Mann announced he was stepping down from Labour last month, citing Jeremy Corbyn's handling of the party's anti-Semitism crisis.

He was nominated to the House of Lords in Theresa May's resignation honour's list and has also been made a government adviser on anti-Semitism.

  15. Nurse suspended over suicidal patient's deathpublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 18 October 2019

    Amy Orton
    Local Democracy Reporter

A mental health nurse who did not do enough to prevent a suicidal patient's death has been suspended for two months.

A Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) hearing heard how Anne Ndlovu "failed to ensure that an adequate mental health assessment" which "contributed to the loss of material chance to prevent [the patient's] death".

The hearing also found that after the incident on 28 March 2015, Ms Ndlovu provided "incorrect information" to a colleague after the patient's death.

During the hearing, the panel also heard that the nurse - who had only been qualified for 18 months - failed to call back another patient who said she was a danger to herself.

The panel did accept that Ms Ndlovu, from Leicester, was an inexperienced mental health nurse at the time of the incident, made early admissions in relation to a number of the charges and that she has “undertaken training and developed her practice so as to make repetition of similar behaviour unlikely”.

A two-month suspension order was imposed. And an interim suspension order was put in place to allow for potential appeal.

A review of the order will be carried out before it expires.
