    A new memorial garden dedicated to all who worked at Thoresby Colliery is to open in Edwinstowe this weekend.

    Nottinghamshire's last deep coal mine closed for good in 2015 after 90 years of operation.

    The garden features a memorial stone remembering miners who died while working there.

    A group of residents, including some former miners, spent two years planning the garden and raising the £24,000 needed for the project.

    Leicestershire MPs have again told the county council they will not support plans to create a single unitary authority.

    A letter sent to council leader Nick Rushton, seen by the BBC, is signed by all seven MPs.

    It says there is no public desire for change and that there is no need for them to spend so much time on the idea.

    They also repeat that they would not support the change in law needed to create the new council.

    In response, Mr Rushton said he is disappointed with the MPs' views, and the proposals put the council "ahead of the game" as government plans for devolution are expected to be published shortly.

    A 16-year-old boy has been released on bail following a stabbing in Blaby.

    He was arrested on Wednesday evening after a person was stabbed at a shop on Grove Road earlier that day.

    The victim was taken to hospital in Coventry with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

    After the stabbing, the suspect made off and police carried out searches of the area.

    The teenager was arrested on Aylestone Road in Leicester on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, robbery and theft from a shop.

    An elderly driver had to be stopped by police following reports that a car was travelling in the wrong direction on the M1.

    Nottinghamshire Police were called last night at about 19.30 after sightings of the vehicle heading south on the northbound carriageway between junctions 26 and 27.

    Officers eventually stopped the motorist in the Annesley area on the A608.

    The force thanked the public for their help.

    A burst water main affecting properties in Bramcote and Wolvey in Warwickshire has been repaired, said Severn Trent.

    The pipe burst on Gypsy Lane on Wednesday morning with a second leak discovered on Thursday, said the water company.

    The repairs were "more difficult than normal due to the location," it added.

    The company said all customers should now have water.

    A theme park will be prosecuted under health and safety laws after a girl died on a water ride.

    Evha Jannath, 11, from Leicester, was on a school trip when she fell from the Splash Canyon ride at Drayton Manor on 9 May 2017 and died of chest injuries.

    The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said the park would face face a charge under Section three of the Health and Safety at Work Act.

    The HSE added criminal proceedings would start after an inquest into the death was heard and it's due to take place next month.

    Three men have been arrested after a Derby flat was raided as part of a drugs investigation.

    Two 19-year-old men and one man, 20, were arrested on suspicion of human trafficking and being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.

    A 16-year-old boy from Essex was found in the flat and officers suspect he was brought to the city to take part in the supply of drugs.

    He has been returned to his home and the three men have been released under investigation.

    The flat in Mill Hill Lane was raided on Monday as part of a county lines investigation, which is the term used to describe criminal gangs who move illegal drugs from big cities to more rural locations and sell them via dedicated mobile phone lines.

    A pedestrian has been seriously injured after being hit by a car near Coalville.

    The man, who is in his 90s, was taken to hospital - where he remains - after being struck by a silver Nissan in The Green in Thringstone on Wednesday morning.

    Det Sgt Ady Keele, of Leicestershire Police, said: "The collision happened at around 09:00 yesterday when people would have been in the area."

    The force has appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage to assist with their inquiries.
