    A fire in the engine compartment of a bus led to the closure of a road in Leicester this morning.

    Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service started tackling the blaze at Netherhall Road, and the junction with New Romney Crescent, at about 08:30.

    First Leicester described it as a "minor fire" and the two passengers on board were safely transferred on to the next bus.

    The fire service said it was caused by an electrical fault.

  2. Four charged after ATM theft in Holton-le-Claypublished at 09:49 British Summer Time 14 October 2019

    Four men are due to appear in court later today in connection with the theft of an ATM at Holton-le-Clay.

    The machine was taken from the McColl's store in Louth Road at about 02.30 on Friday.

    Following a pursuit, during which a Humberside Police vehicle was rammed and damaged, the ATM was recovered by officers from the back of an abandoned Transit van.

    Four men aged between 32 and 38, from Doncaster, Alfreton and Newark, have been charged with offences including burglary, theft and assault.

    They are due to appear at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court later today.

  3. CCTV appeal after 'vulnerable' couple burgledpublished at 09:08 British Summer Time 14 October 2019

    Two masked men stole a "significant amount" of cash from the home of an elderly couple in West Bridgford.

    The men entered the the property on Chantrey Road at about 19:45 on 9 October.

    They left the scene in an Audi A4 or A6 estate.

    Nottinghamshire Police said this isn't the first time the "vulnerable" couple have been targeted by burglars.

    Det Insp Steve Wragg said: "This incident has left these repeat burglary victims very distressed.

    "We're urging anyone who recognises the men in the footage or from the voices that can be heard in the clip to please get in touch with us."

    Residents are also being warned to lock their front and back doors and windows even when at home.

    Police are concerned for the welfare of missing Kerry Ball who was last seen near Leicester Royal Infirmary on Friday.

    The 44-year-old is on medication but doesn't have any with her.

    She is known to drink in pubs in Leicester city centre. Officers would like to hear from anyone with information on where she is.

  5. Airport IT system crash causes long queuespublished at 08:19 British Summer Time 14 October 2019

    Long queues were reported at East Midlands Airport this morning after an IT system crashed.

    An airport spokesman said problems started when one of their computer networks went down at about 03:20.

    Passengers arriving for early morning flights were faced with long delays getting through security.

    The problem has now been resolved and no flights have been cancelled - although they are now playing catch-up to get all flights out.

    It's going to be rather wet and windy today.

    The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain - that's valid from about 12:00 to just before midnight tonight.
