    Hundreds of police officers from across the UK paid a visit to the Knife Angel sculpture outside Derby Cathedral this morning.

    The trip formed part of the National Black Police Association's annual conference, taking place at Pride Park Stadium.

    The sculpture, built with 100,000 bladed weapons seized by police forces, is on display in the city until 29 October.

    NBPA president Tola Munro, from Gwent Police, said: "I was very keen to bring the delegates to see the Knife Angel as a symbol of our continued work against knife crime."

    Derbyshire Police estimates 61,000 visitors have viewed the artwork since it was installed on 1 October.

    An emergency operation to restore gas to more than 900 properties in Wirksworth after water from a burst pipe entered the gas network has concluded, external.

    Distributor Cadent said it had switched gas back on at every home they had been able to gain access to.

    However, 45 homes remain without gas - more of half of which are vacant or holiday lets.

    Householders are due to receive compensation of £60 for every 24-hour period they were without gas while businesses will receive £100.

    It said calling cards had been left at the remaining properties for returning owners to request an engineer visit.

    It added a team would remain in the town for the next two weeks to carry out "further remedial work" on the gas network.

    A woman from Leicester has said she felt "traumatised" after finding bacon in her McDonald's egg and cheese McMuffin yesterday morning.

    Aameena Ahmed is Muslim and only allowed to eat halal meat, but has also chosen to be vegetarian.

    The 28-year-old has compared her experience to someone with an allergy being given food they can't eat for medical reasons.

    "If I was to have consumed the bacon, I think the mental impact it would have had, and the impact on my emotional state, would have been just as severe," she said.

    She complained to McDonald's and Uber Eats - where she ordered the meal - and was offered a refund and meal vouchers, but Ms Ahmed said that is not the response she wanted.

    "I just wanted a sincere apology and that's what I didn't get," she said.

    A McDonald's spokesperson told the BBC: "We absolutely recognise that it is not acceptable to serve meat when a vegetarian product has been ordered, and we sincerely apologise to the customer for the mistakes that were made in this case. This was simply not good enough.

    "We have a number of procedures in place to avoid inaccurate orders, but in this case these were clearly not followed, and we are looking into why this occurred."

    A 93-year-old woman has died in hospital following a crash near Arnold last week.

    Nottinghamshire Police were called following a report of a two-vehicle collision near the junction of Linden Place and Mapperley Plains Road at about 10:00 on 9 October.

    Annette Currie-Wood, from West Bridgford, was taken to hospital for treatment and died on Sunday.

    Insp Andy Roberts said it was "vitally important" witnesses come forward to help police understand the circumstances leading up to the collision.

    Detectives are investigating a report of a gun being fired at a property in New Basford.

    No-one was hurt in the incident, which happened in Eland Street on Wednesday night.

    Det Insp Jon Naylor, of Nottinghamshire Police, said officers are conducting house-to-house inquiries.

    He said: "We are working hard to establish the circumstances but would appeal for anyone who witnessed anything suspicious to get in touch."

    Dr Paul Heery said he saw a "fully grown stag, antlers and all" this morning after taking his dog for a walk in Beeston.

    He called 101 and said the handler told him: "We are aware, sir, but he's going a bit quick for us to keep up."

    A woman and child remain in a serious condition in hospital after two cars crashed in Wessington at the weekend.

    A 31-year-old man is in a critical condition and two teenager boys were taken to hospital after a car and lorry crashed in Newark last night.

    Police said the crash happened at the junction of Hawton Lane and Bowbridge Road at about 23:00, external.

    The boys, aged 14 and 15, are being treated for non life-threatening injuries.

    The driver of the lorry was not injured. Police have appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage.
