I'm still very upset that the van driver didn't stop and check up on me properly and stay with me. Instead he left... it's put me off riding really. I've only been back on my bike once and that was to get it fixed. I've been staying at my house and counting down the days until I can return to work.

Ms Swann led the multiagency emergency response when part of the Toddbrook Reservoir dam failed in August 2019.

In November, she said she had been forced to leave social media after receiving abuse sparked by her hairstyle.

Mr Dhindsa said: "Rachel's depth of experience and proven leadership will ensure Derbyshire Constabulary continues to go from strength to strength in the future."

Ms Swann said she was "absolutely delighted and extremely privileged".

The appointment is subject to a confirmation hearing by Derbyshire's Police and Crime Panel.
