Tributes have been paid to Nottingham's first black mayor, Desmond Wilson, who died last week.
Mr Wilson emigrated to Nottingham in 1957 aged 18 and worked as a miner and for Nottingham City Transport before opening a café in Radford in 1971.
He became politically active in the 1980s, serving as a councillor for St Ann's and worked to promote opportunities for young people from ethnic minority communities.
Mr Wilson became mayor in 2002 and was awarded an honorary degree by the University of Nottingham in 2012.
Current city council leader David Mellen said: "Des was a community activist, advocate and champion for Nottingham, who made an outstanding contribution".

A cyclist is unable to work after being hit by a van.
Kyle Murcott uffered a broken collar bone and required hospital treatment for facial injuries after the crash, which happened between 13:00 and 13:30 on Cumbria Road in Worksop on 6 July.
The 22-year-old has been unable to return to employment as a packer for B&Q, and doctors have said it could be another month before he's allowed to go back to work.
Nottinghamshire Police is appealing for any witnesses or anyone who has CCTV or dashcam footage from the area to get in touch.
Quote MessageI'm still very upset that the van driver didn't stop and check up on me properly and stay with me. Instead he left... it's put me off riding really. I've only been back on my bike once and that was to get it fixed. I've been staying at my house and counting down the days until I can return to work.

The new Chief Constable of Derbyshire is set to be the officer who became the face of the Whaley Bridge crisis response.
Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner Hardyal Dhindsa has confirmed Rachel Swann, who is currently the Deputy Chief Constable, as his preferred candidate.
Ms Swann led the multiagency emergency response when part of the Toddbrook Reservoir dam failed in August 2019.
In November, she said she had been forced to leave social media after receiving abuse sparked by her hairstyle.
Mr Dhindsa said: "Rachel's depth of experience and proven leadership will ensure Derbyshire Constabulary continues to go from strength to strength in the future."
Ms Swann said she was "absolutely delighted and extremely privileged".
The appointment is subject to a confirmation hearing by Derbyshire's Police and Crime Panel.
