Two "shocking" attacks on workers in Leicestershire Co-Ops have been condemned by the firm.
Earlier today a staff member at the Anson Road Food Store, Shepshed, was pushed and hit by a customer - who then brandished a wrench - after asking for ID.
This came after another worker was attacked and then robbed while he lay injured on the floor at the Markfield store on 10 July.
The latest victim was not seriously hurt but the earlier attack left the worker needing an overnight stay in hospital.
Craig Goldie, from Central England Co-op, said: "Everyone at Central England Co-op was shocked and appalled at the unacceptable attack on a colleague.
"We strongly condemn any form of abuse of violence towards our colleagues who are just doing their job."
The company said assaults on staff across its 240 sites had jumped by 100% since the start of the year, with threats and intimidation rising by 25% and verbal abuse by 175% - including more than 100 incidents of people using Covid-19 as a threat.

A historical locomotive is set to return to steam after a new agreement to fund work on its engine was reached.
No. 777 Sir Lamiel - named after Sir Lamiel of Cardiff, who was briefly named in Le Morte D'Arthur - first entered service in 1925, and is the sole-surviving member of the Southern Railway’s N15 King Arthur Class.
The locomotive - on loan to the Great Central Railway in Loughborough - will be based there while the work is carried out, with the renovations set to be completed in 2023.
The 5305 Locomotive Association will fund initial work on the engine, with a public fundraising campaign seeking to raise £80,000 for the rest of the project.
