People are being advised to avoid visiting relatives in care homes in the Newark area to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Yesterday Newark and Sherwood district was placed on a list of areas of concern by the government following a steep rise in the number of cases.
Nottinghamshire County Council said there had been 61 cases in the past 14 days, giving the district one of the highest infection rates in England.
Melanie Brooks, the council's director of adult social care, said: "Given the current situation we feel now is the time to take some additional steps to protect those residents who are the most susceptible.
"We therefore urge anyone who was planning to visit their relatives or friends in care homes in Newark this weekend to avoid doing so until the situation has improved."

A mum-of-four who hid books for children in her area said it was "just gutting" to see one of them ripped up.
Georgina Geeson left five books around Retford yesterday as a treat for children who found them, "to get more children reading."
The idea is something other people in the area have been doing since the start of lockdown, but this morning Mrs Geeson found one of the books and a leaflet with it in a Hallcroft park had been destroyed.
"I just wanted to spread the love of books more," she said.
Mrs Geeson, 37, from Retford, believes a group of young people in the park had ripped up the book and said it took her several minutes to clear up the mess.
"I was trying to do something good but it's something I need to think about doing again," she added.
"I might see what people think and where they would like to see them or maybe I can start up a box of books somewhere."
The government says infection rates in the city have fallen "thanks to the efforts of the local area".

A hospital worker returned to his car after a 12-hour shift to find the front end had been completely stripped away.
Warren Hamlin's VW Golf R had the bumper, grill, two headlights, badge and number plate stolen while it was parked in the Kilton Hill car park at Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop on Wednesday.
The diagnostic radiographer from Doncaster saw what happened after his shift ended at 20:00 and added: "My heart just dropped when I saw it. It was unbelieveable, especially as it was a really long day.
"It was broad daylight as well."
Mr Hamlin, 23, said CCTV had spotted a suspicious van entering the car park and circling several times that day and someone reported seeing three men standing behind the grass verge near his car around 19:30.
The hospital said CCTV showed a group had taken the items within 40 seconds.

A review of Leicester's lockdown restrictions has been delayed until Monday, the city council has been told.
The city and some surrounding areas were put under extended measures on 29 June to control a spike in coronavirus cases.
Some of these were eased, allowing pubs and restaurants to reopen earlier this month.
However, larger social gatherings and some leisure activities remain forbidden.
Normally these measures are reviewed every two weeks and another announcement had been expected today.
But the city council has confirmed it has been told by the government any update would not take place until Monday.
The Department for Health and Social Care has not yet commented.

Leicester's director of public health has called for the current coronavirus Test and Trace system to be more localised after branding the centralised set-up "ludicrous".
Recent NHS figures suggest local health protection teams have achieved a significantly higher success rate in reaching close contacts of confirmed Covid-19 cases than in cases dealt with by call centres or online.
Addressing a Royal Society of Medicine webinar, Ivan Browne said local health teams in Leicester would speak to multiple members of a household in one go, whereas this was not the case with the central system.
He said: "The way the central system was set up was [to take] everyone as an individual, which is ludicrous really."
Mr Browne also expressed concerns about the government's approach to bringing the country out of lockdown.
He said: "I have huge issues with things like Eat Out To Help Out... when I'm walking up my road and seeing people queuing up, it's a concern.
"We've got to get a clear narrative of where we are, being in control and being cautious, and make sure we are not giving this virus the opportunity to pass on, because it will."
A government spokesperson responded: "NHS Test and Trace is completely free, it's working and, hand-in-hand with local partners, is reaching 83.4% of contacts, which is in line with international standards.
"This is a team effort and we are supporting local authorities where there are outbreaks with additional testing and dedicated contact tracers as we did in Leicester.
"The hospitality sector has been amongst the worst affected by the lockdown and Eat Out to Help Out is helping consumers safely support the sector."

A senior off-duty police officer was threatened with an iron bar while tackling a suspected shoplifter in Nottinghamshire.
Supt Kevin Broadhead was in the Tesco Express on Nottingham Road, Mansfield, shortly before 21:20 on Thursday when he spotted the thief.
After chasing the suspect outside, two people in a waiting car threatened him with the weapon.
Mr Broadhead noted the car's registration as it drove away and the two people were arrested when it returned to the petrol station shortly afterwards.
A 42-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of theft, dangerous driving and affray.
They remain in police custody. A third suspect remains at large.
Mr Broadhead, county commander at Nottinghamshire Police, said: "I had gone in to buy some petrol and left my car on the forecourt.
"As a police officer you are never really off duty so when I saw somebody I suspected to be stealing goods I immediately chased after them.
"But in the end I was only one part of a wider team of response officers who arrived so rapidly on the scene."
It's a rather dull start today with low cloud and mist but this will tend to break up during the morning to leave it dry with sunny spells developing in the afternoon. A fresher day.
