Events at a major Nottinghamshire venue have been cancelled at short notice due to coronavirus rates in the area.

After discussions between organisers and health officials, the Newark International Antiques & Collectors Fair and the Normous Newark Autojumble will not got ahead this weekend at Newark Showground, the county council said.

The University of Leicester says it plans to offer students places based on their mock A-level results as well as their published results - whichever is higher - regardless of whether they decide to appeal or wait for appeal outcomes.

Vice-chancellor, Professor Nishan Canagarajah, said the university was waiting for clarity around the government announcement that schools in England could appeal for an upgrade if students' results were lower than those achieved in their mock exams.

Professor Canagarajah added students who are accepting or applying for a clearing place at the university would be required to validate their mock results via their school to secure their place.
